I like me a little plot twist

There is someone watching me. No matter where I go, I can feel their eyes following me. They watch me while I sleep, when I’m at work, when I’m out on a walk. No matter what I do, I know they’re right there with me. I could almost call them my bodyguard.

Unfortunately, they want me dead. You may be wondering: how am I so sure of that? They’ve been watching me for months now, and there have been many situations when I was completely alone. They had their chance to strike so many times. Well, you see, I can feel them coming closer. They will only be able to strike once they are close enough, and whenever they’re watching me, each time I feel them closer and closer to me.

Little do they know, I have a plan. These past few months have been hell for me. I was doing so well in life before they came. I finally found a stable position as a software engineer, I got engaged to the love of my life, and then they came along and ruined everything. I need to stop them. And it’s almost time.

I tightly hold onto the knife as I walk through the empty street. It’s getting late, and I am sure they will strike very soon. Lately, they’ve been only getting closer and closer. I can almost feel them breathing down my neck, sending shivers down my spine every single time. I’ve had enough of this. Tonight, I will end this once and for all.

The gentle wind dances all around me. The street lights illuminate my path. I keep walking. I know they’re here. Watching me. Waiting for the right moment. I continue walking towards my house, taking deep breaths to calm myself down. My hands are starting to shake a lot as I await their attack.

Suddenly, I hear footsteps behind me. At first, they are slow. Then, they suddenly stop, as if teasing me. I tighten the grip on my knife, preparing for the attack. That’s when the footsteps speed up again, getting louder and louder as they get closer to me. The only thing that I can hear is my heartbeat, beating more rapidly every passing moment.

Finally, they get close enough to strike. Without any hesitation, I swiftly turn around and stab them. Then again. I let out a loud scream that I’ve been holding within me for so long and continue stabbing them, the blood fully covering my vision. I need them dead. I need this to stop. I win.

Once I manage to calm myself down, I drop the knife and wipe the blood off my face, then look at my now-dead enemy. I expected to celebrate, but instead, my heart stops and I freeze in place. In front of me lays my fiancée, her body twisted and bloodied. This can’t be… No! It wasn’t her who had been following me this whole time, was it? Did I accidentally hurt her instead?!

Knowing that I won’t ever get an answer to this, I weep as I hold my fiancée’s dead body in my arms.
