It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Victor Alexandre Ginsburgh, co-founding editor of the Journal of Wine Economics and Vice President of the American Association of Wine Economists.

Between 2021 and 2023, U.S. per capita table wine consumption fell by 0.55 liters. However, the decline shows significant regional disparities. For instance, Florida’s consumption (-1.00 liter) decreased much more than New York’s (-0.21 liter).

In Spain, in the middle of the 20th century, it was common to give traffic policemen wine and cava for the holidays. The custom petered out in the 1970s.

We usually associate Bordeaux with red wine. But 60 years ago approx 58% of the vinifera vineyard area was white! Sémillon was the most widely planted variety, followed by Merlot, Malbec (!) and the Cabernets (Franc & Sauvignon together). Also, Hybrids accounted for 25% of Bordeaux's vineyard area.
