Having just said “this looks good for Barred Warbler” I wasn’t expecting a Barred Warbler to actually pop up in-front of me and @kesteraw.bsky.social

Barred Warbler at Friary Hills, Blakeney this morning the highlight, plus a few Brambling and Redwing overhead #Norfolkbirding

Called in at Snettisham for the Short-toed Lark on my way past #birdingNorfolk

And rare species (whether at Fife or national levels) are dealt with via the relevant records committees

Identification and unusual counts/locations QA is via the eBird reviewer for the region (which is me) & by plotting records to see whether any in weird locations (this tends to be a bigger issue with BirdTrack to be honest).
wilsonjaredm.bsky.social
Do you have a link Mark? I merged eBird, BirdTrack and records submitted on excel sheets using R code but appreciate that May be a bit niche

There being a standard approach to extracting and summarising #ebird records for use in e.g. annual bird reports that is easy to use and freely available might reduce barriers to the use of what is an incredible (and rapidly growing) resource?
wilsonjaredm.bsky.social
Is it due to data access issues, volume of records just too many to manage, lack of faith in the records, or something else. I can see why the volume of records might be overwhelming but not access nor record quality (the regional reviewers should provide QA).
wilsonjaredm.bsky.social
In Fife the majority of records of common species available for the annual report are from eBird (more than 150,000 individual records per year). It’d be interesting to understand the reasons for eBird not being used

11 Sooty Shearwater, Merlin offshore @ Fife Ness this pm. Plenty of Pink-footed Geese including some stragglers struggling to landfall. This juv landed on the sea 100m offshore, rested for an hour, flapped its way towards the breakers and struggled up onto the rocks totally knackered #birdingFife

Otter this morning at the local reservoir, the first I’ve seen there for about a year

Black Tern south, a Whoooer Swan on the sea and a Merlin hunting incoming Meadow Pipit offshore the highlights of an hour first thing at Fife Ness #birdingFife

Went to see the White-rumped Sandpiper at Guardbridge that @simonpinder5.bsky.social had found and got very confused about its age as it skulked around in the grass. Resolution when an adult and a juvenile appeared on the mud as the tide fell #birdingFife

I was standing near Daniel Gebauer when the Siberian Thrush broke cover and gave startled birders a rapid flyby at Asta yesterday. Beaming from ear to ear, he then showed several of us this stunning image he captured. Absolutely insane! Well done Daniel #ukbirding #birdingScotland

Nice to find this Rustic Bunting with the Mrs this evening on St Martin’s, Isles of Scilly. A subtle bird, in some ways, compared to obvious autumn males. Looks to be same bird found on St Agnes yesterday when comparing feather details. #ScillyBirding

Brown Shrike today! 1st for #StKilda and only the 4th for the Outer Hebs! Flighty and elusive, but combination of features confirmed ID, including uniform dark brown head and mantle, very dark mask, short wings, and very long, slim, reddish tail.

Yellow-browed Bunting trapped, ringed and released at the Swannery. It's flown to the hedge which runs alongside the Swannery grounds and the bird may be viewable from the permissive path heading west from Grove Lane.
