I guess my other point is that mega-projects/‘big question’-type stuff isn’t all that useful given an interlinked set of fields with a very material basis that is crumbling. People need to do something about that first.

My feeling with heritage these days (I know you all care) is that there needs to be less emphasis on futures, more on the building blocks of the here and now, which both attest to futures made impossible and also to the steady erosion of possibility.

I’d say this is always the case: the NHS’s critical care facilities are somehow unsurpassed even as everything else creaks. I’ve seen this in action a bit recently for various reasons snd at its very best it’s incredible, at its worst just miserable.
