A British trans man and physician, Dillon authored Self: A Study in Ethics and Endocrinology (1946), one of the first books to discuss medical transition. He underwent early forms of gender-affirming surgery and became the first known trans man to receive phalloplasty.

Barry is known for completing the first successful c-section in which both the mother and the baby survived. After Barry’s death, it was revealed that he had been assigned female at birth, sparking debates about gender and identity.
He rose to the rank of Inspector General of Hospitals, overseeing medical care across the British Empire, and implemented reforms in sanitation, nutrition, and patient care that saved countless lives.
