Fan of Doctor Who, history and generally nerdy stuff. Left the bird after some unpleasantness. Slightly left of centre left. All views my own and don't reflect my employer or anyone else.

Despite being an atheist, I have embarked upon the potentially insane task of reading the whole bible. I haven't set a timescale for this but it's something I've been thinking about for some time. A few things have made me want to do this 🧵

I meant in the sense that the US doesn't remotely understand the kind of small c conservative democratic socialist tradition that Orwell is part of and which informs most of his work. It's very hard to understand Animal Farm or 1984 in isolation without having read Homage to Catalonia or Wigan Pier.

Better than those at the ends of the horseshoe do

No American correctly understands anything written by George Orwell.

I have a MA in political science and worked for a political party for 6 years but thanks for your incredibly trite and patronising advice.

Always irritating as someone with no interest in sport when something you look forward to watching gets bumped for a match. Just once, I'd like a football match to get bumped for a really good quiz show

Hayekian and Friedmannian libertarianism has fuck all to do with the pragmatic paternalism of every key Conservative from Burke to MacMillan. Until they wake up to this and realise that the post 97 Tories are a cult to a dead idea that need to reconnect with one nation ideas, theyre fucked.

The Tory inability to recognise that Thatcher was not a conservative and destroyed everything that made Britain Britain, and that her legacy is almost wholly malign, is the reason for their failure in government and downward. Thatcherism is an aberration of Toryism, not its apotheosis.

Wichita Lineman or Thunder Road for me

They were called Fleetwood Mac after Mick Fleetwood and John and Christine McVie, all of whom were still in the band. And nobody is more tedious than people who only like Peter Green and his wanky blues shit. Anyone who thinks any of the Green albums are better than FM, Rumours, Tusk is nuts.

When I saw them around the same time it was Gorham and Robertson with Tommy Aldridge on drums, and they kicked ass. They were pretty close to what I expected them to be, duelling guitars and all.

Tell me you never watched TOS without...

That's the point of the song, though, isn't it? The whole second verse is the son responding with anger to this bullshit.

That's never been how I read it. I always read it that it was the little things they didn't pick up on that led to the relationship collapsing. Not necessarily that they did nothing at all.

My understanding is that while the UK government itself may have played little role, the deal was mostly written by Tony Blair based on the template of NI. I doubt Donny can spell Hamas.

Yeah, ours are always either late or cancelled.

Well congratulations on living in a perfect location. Most of us aren't that lucky and our public transport is shit

I didn't know you could scrump anything other than apples

Where is your toilet? Svalbard?

It does work, though. The best advice I can give is to do things you enjoy other than dating. Join clubs, pursue hobbies and interests, and meet other people with those same interests. Then it will happen without you even knowing it.

Im going to take a massive bet that this is a mums rather than dads problem. The extent of my interaction with other parents is at most small talk.

Everyone on the right wants to be Thatcher when the country really needs a Disraeli or Baldwin.

They're not that expensive. I got mine for about 20 quid.
