She lost because the Trump campaign played a video of her endorsement of sex change surgeries for prison inmates funded by tax payers. They spammed it everywhere they could.

You let perfection be the enemy of good. Also there was a very good chance that her "support" of Israel would be performative rhetoric during the campaign and she would attach conditions to further weapons sales (something she flirted with on the campaign anyway).

You would not necessarily get convicted if you shot an unidentified person who pointed what you reasonably believed to be a gun at you.
When Minnesota cops did a drive by in 2020 a local resident fired back and was acquitted afterward.
