Yeah my era there was the early/mid it's and it was pretty feral.
Cool so now dairy farmers can go to the French government for handouts eh?

A bit of a long thread on the strategy and cultural war the right is surging ahead with here in Aotearoa (while I’m tired and awake at a hospital bedside).

Fermenting from a few things, including a NZ democracy conference in Wellington last week and good chats with friends #NZPol
Considering it's as predictable as the sun coming up it could just be a single line in the story, rather than the whole story.
Oh so are 2+1 roads generally a third of the cost of expressways/motorways?
Personally I'd like to see them do iRex AND this AND Lake Onslow pumped hydro and more and more. If we want to grow we need to build this shit.
FFS what an absolute bunch of tools.
Wait what? What were Destiny doing there? I remember they were at the last Palestine march too so are they now just a rentacrowd on the wrong side of every issue?
This kind of "analysis" is pointless. What about a piece that looks at similar funds overseas that have worked and ones that haven't and the lessons to be learnt? Perhaps a deep-dive on what kind of projects such a fund could, er, fund & why do they struggle to attract $$ from traditional investors.
This is good from the Greens - really sticking it to the Govt. I feel like there's a developing attitude on the left ie with Zohran Mamdani, Zack Polanski, Kat Abughazaleh where they're really calling out the right and I think it's working.

Greens accuse government of 'clownish' smear campaign over mega strike
The party has savaged the government's response to the looming mega-strike.

Robocop is a movie about a guy who gets killed on the job and they still made him go back to work
So Luxon was on the news this morning saying we have no money, then at lunchtime Labour announce a policy about the future, then suddenly Luxo has a couple of billion to spend on roads?
Smells like panic eh?
75% chance they came with this list of roads on the way to the presser.
I hope the first big infrastructure project from the future fund is the long-awaited Waikumete-Rosebank Bridge! Yes it's niche but it's probably got a better ROI than anything the current govt are proposing ...
Plenty of details to come obvs, but this sounds good.

Will earnings go back into the fund forever? i.e. the benefit for the country is not and annual cash return from the fund into govt coffers, rather the benefit is the economic and social benefit of improved infra etc....
The Future Fund...
- a sovereign wealth fund
- starting with assets we already own plus a capital injection
- run by an independent team
- earnings going back into the Fund
- assets in the Fund protected in law
So immigration is one of the big issues these days right? Here's my questions for journos/economists/politicalists:
- Is immigration essential? What are the assumptions behind this?
- What drives the jump in immigration over the last few decades?
- What happens if immigration is stopped?

Hey looks like like NZ does know how to get rid of a bland dickhead
The current Stuff campaign about swimming is kinda funny. Wouldnt be surprised if 6 months from now they were publishing pieces from the NZ Initiative about how drowning is good for the economy.
Wouldn't you just love to have a good look at where Federated Farmers' funding comes from?
