Candidate for Congress (VA-01). No corporate cash. No strings attached. Fighting for a New Way Forward — built from the ground up.

I'm Tim Cywinski and I'm running for Va's First Congressional district because I'm tired of half-measures and broken promises. Delivering real solutions for real people is not a matter of possibility, it's a matter of political will. I hope you'll support my campaign to build A New Way Forward
We can’t build our way out of a crisis while Wall Street hoards what we’ve already built.

Housing must be preserved for people — not corporate profit.
It’s time to reform our economy so every Virginian can afford home.

No exceptions.
Everytime I speak to young people, they always ask how to hold on to hope in era of climate change and deep division.

I'm running because solutions DO exist, and I'm rejecting special interests because they deter the political will to act.
Let’s be clear: this shutdown isn’t about fiscal responsibility or “waste, fraud, and abuse.” It’s about priorities. And once again, Republicans are showing us theirs — they’d rather shut down the government than stop healthcare costs from exploding.
This portrait and description is going in my living room.
Tim Cywinski

Likes: reforming the rules, environmental justice, people-centered solutions, change from the ground up, holding Congress to a higher standard

Dislikes: “it is what it is” politics, bad-faith politicians, armies of lobbyists, catering to wealthy donors

Voters deserve the truth. No spin. No script. Just who the candidates really are.

That’s why I recorded an unplanned conversation were calling “No B.S. Just Tim.”

Be on lookout for more videos like this to drop 👀
Thank you Metro Area Young Democrats and @vayd.bsky.social for giving me the mic (and a soundtrack) at your RVA happy hour.

People are hungry for the fresh ideas and bold solutions young generations bring. We aren’t just the future — we’re the present. And groups like these prove the it everyday.
I had a lot of fun participating in the Glen Allen Day parade with the @henricodems.bsky.social. There was great energy around the dem candidates @maynivar.com and scottk4va.com.

Whenever I attend one of these, I think about the effort of folks in the background who make it possible. S/O to them!

Appreciate the repost, but, more importantly, I appreciate all that you do to shine a light on how the first district isn’t getting the leadership it deserves.
Appreciate you too, brother 💪🏻
My slogan is A New Way Forward because I believe changing our political culture will lead to better policy — not just better elections. The odds may be against me, but real change comes from the audacity of the underdog. I’m proud to be one. So I won't be dropping out anytime soon.
I’m not mad at this comment or mentality. I’m just bummed that some view money as the #1 metric for a candidate. That’s why I call every donor — whether they give me $5 or $500.
I’m running because I believe representation should be earned, not anointed. Every voter deserves the chance to weigh in. That’s not disloyalty — that’s democracy. It’s time the party leans hard into the notion that people’s voices matter, not just their money.
A strong primary isn’t about dividing energy. It’s about building it. Campaigns that engage voters across all of VA-01 will make our nominee stronger, not weaker.
When we treat one part of VA-01 as if it’s the only part that matters, we risk silencing entire regions. That’s how we lose sight of delivering real solutions for families. It’s also how we lose elections.
King & Queen County has an 18% poverty rate, with 43% of children living in poverty (Census Reporter). Call me crazy, but I think they deserve representation, and that issue deserves attention — even if they make up less than 1% of the district.
Communities like Williamsburg, Northumberland, Lancaster, Middlesex, Essex, Mathews, and King & Queen face unique challenges — from flooding and housing affordability to underfunded schools and healthcare access. Their voices matter just as much.
Even if those areas made up a much smaller share, that shouldn’t matter. Their voices matter. Their issues matter. That’s why I engage with every community — not just the ones with the most voters. I'm sure @glodemsva.bsky.social @newkentvadems.bsky.social and Historic triangle dems, etc would agree
Yes, Chesterfield, Henrico, and Hanover make up a big share of VA-01. But they’re not the whole story. More than 40% of voters live in places like James City, York, Gloucester, New Kent, Westmoreland, and across the Northern Neck & Middle Peninsula.
Primaries aren’t a “waste of time.” They’re how voters test ideas, vet candidates, and decide who’s best positioned to represent them. Skipping that process doesn’t strengthen us — it weakens democracy. It makes candidates out of touch.
Comment from an @bluevirginia.bsky.social article about another candidate raising $$$.

I don’t mind this comment– the anonymity yes – but not the substance. It’s on the mind of voters. So let's talk how this mentality is undemocratic + why every community in our district deserves a voice too. 🧵
I’m busy with my other job today, but my dog insisted on sharing her thoughts:

This shutdown isn’t an accident—it’s manufactured by Rob Wittman and his party, all to protect the ultra-wealthy at the expense of hardworking families.

It’s time to restore real representationfor the rest of us.

Thanks for the shout out! Here ya go!

Families can’t afford higher healthcare or a government shutdown. But Republicans are holding both hostage— all while Rob Wittman holds a fundraiser.
For the record, I had to be convinced to bleep out the curse words.
