The social worker goes WITH the police as part of the team when a mental health crisis is brewing. In my graduate training we had a section on learning about different cultures, etc. You might call it a DEI section. A certain group of guys referred to it as “doily medicine.” You can’t teach empathy

I’m not sure what you’re referring to. if it’s about Staffing social workers on police forces, I’m all in! You can’t teach empathy and sadly only a small portion of officers think empathy first. When my nonverbal and sometimes violent sweet nephew has a meltdown, I vote for a social worker first.

Actually… I didn’t realize what this was about exactly but I remember this case perfectly. One of my favorite people in the world is a black man who texted me for some advice about moving to Ocala Florida after retirement. I told him it was probably not a good time. This happens a few days later.

How boring my life would be without all the amazing people in it that are different from myself. All ages, skin colors, hair colors, ethnicities, sexual identities. Each one enriches me and makes me a better person. Why would I want to be with only people like me? I’ve never understood that.

Racism towards Black people has to change. I witnessed it all my life n not just from whites. It’s not that difficult to get to know Blacks or anybody. We’re all human. Take the time to get to know different races n cultures. We’re humans n have many similarities despite looking different! #kindness
