One break leads to another. Back on it, then. 145-148 addresses protections for groups that share protected characteristics, but keep in mind, the assumption we have already arrived at is that trans people barely have this.

Continuing with looking at the heart of the case, the EA 2010.

OK, back on it then. I am going to use this as a repository for observations, and put it into a full article at some point. For now, on with the show. So, 94 and on goes into section 9 of the GRA 2004. They start here seemingly splitting hairs between sex and gender.

Just saw an opinion piece comparing GAC for minors to lobotomy and I can't even anymore. Taking a break.

Lord I have no clue. Most places seem to be using ABC or some other source for their own reporting, so that simplifies some things without answering the main question...
viridianlakes.bsky.social
Honestly... never done it, but I believe a dermatologist should oblige.
viridianlakes.bsky.social
It could. I'm also wondering about the Twitter tag on the story. Surely they're not using Twitter posts to generate tags...?
viridianlakes.bsky.social
Omg... This needs an explanation. I keep hoping maybe buried in one of the sources someone discussed recent shootings and misinformation, but I didn't see that yet... Will double check soon, but... I'm so worried about this.
viridianlakes.bsky.social
Small addendum. Most trans stories Ground has also get put under the LGBTQ+ tab. This one on a mass shooting does not show up there. Meaning that for some reason a mass shooting was given a transgender tag even though it doesn't appear to feature in any linked story, w/ no LGBTQ+ linkage either.

@groundnews.bsky.social So, guys, I gotta ask... Is it policy to now list mass shootings under your "transgender" tag? Because if it is, I'm going to have to discuss this.
viridianlakes.bsky.social
Yeah, I mean, idk how many folks they have (understaffed? way too busy?), but there's only so much that can be said... Hoping they can get a handle on things because I do like the concept and have found some new things there that helped me out before.
viridianlakes.bsky.social
As noted down the thread, this is not my only concern with Ground's handling of trans news and sources. They at least have a tag, and are collecting some useful info. I discovered a lot of new info through them. Still, room for improvement and all that.

I believe that's derived from one of the articles cited I believe, which seems to be how they get the titles for news segments. I'm not sure how much is automated, etc. The site is a tool for digging deeper, not really an end source in itself imo.

This is terrible and chaotic enough as it is without having trans people even tangentially tossed into the mix. Focus on the families who need comfort, the victims who need healing. Not trans people writ large.
viridianlakes.bsky.social
Right now I want the focus there and not erroneously on trans people. That's why I was shocked when I saw it listed in the trans news tab. I was wondering what the connection was. I found none, at least thus far.
viridianlakes.bsky.social
I'm also going to clarify here: I am IN NO WAY attempting to distract or divert from the tragedy going on. Rather, I am seeking to prevent more senseless violence and persecution. We all want a world without violence and fear. Let's focus on that.
viridianlakes.bsky.social
Once again, way down here: if I missed something PLEASE tell me. I looked through most of the sources Ground listed, and will go over them again, but I didn't even really see any of the sources mentioning other high profile shootings. Again, I'm worried. Help us out here.

Note: not where the screen cap is from, but where the link in the cap goes to. Sorry.
viridianlakes.bsky.social
I believe in what you're trying to do and want it to succeed. It's helped give me good insights about a lot of stories I'd have missed. But this? I'm worried.
viridianlakes.bsky.social
You've got a very valuable service. I'd love to see it continue. But I'm also hoping you'll move to improve it in ways that don't inadvertently cause issues. And again, if I'm missing something, I'll be happy to post a clarification and apology.
viridianlakes.bsky.social
Coming back to the original point of the thread, I realize a lot might be automated at Ground now, but if you're automating things in a way that is based more on trends than reporting that... Could be an issue.
viridianlakes.bsky.social
Ground, while including several LGBTQ news sources (good) doesn't include trans specific sources, even though there are a few that are established and recognized, such as @erininthemorning.com.
viridianlakes.bsky.social
My point being that if Ground's aggregation is automated, it needs correcting, especially when the insinuation is that a trans person was either responsible for or targeted by violence. This is being done without apparent basis. Yet at the same time...
viridianlakes.bsky.social
I say this because @groundnews.bsky.social lists Reduxx as a source, last I checked.
viridianlakes.bsky.social
I'm probably not the only one but I got into @groundnews.bsky.social because of the YouTube ads they run at places like @somemorenews.bsky.social. I know not everyplace can be on top of trans issues, but guys, at least add a trans news outlet like @assignedmedia.org or @whatthetrans.com ...
viridianlakes.bsky.social
Going to post over here that this shooting was, once again, senseless, like pretty much every other shooting. Numerous people died, many more injured, and the trauma felt by everyone there will be lasting. People need safety, a place to live without violence.
