Apparently, I now have to verify my age in order to read direct messages (or access 'adult content' - though TBH, I didn't realise there was any on Bluesky). Therefore, please don't DM me.

It's firstly more a test and/or proof of concept of Trellis being used for something other than adventures.

And secondly to give myself ideas for a future version of the Trellis script language. (I've long wanted to rewrite the badly-written interpreter completely!)

4/4
Later this week, I'll try to rewatch @bigcar2.bsky.social's follow-up video, and try to add Golf 2024 as a third version in the same script.

Note: the purpose of this exercise isn't really to 'port' the game(s) to #RISC_OS this could be done in BASIC (and more faithful to the originals)

3/?
The issue was INPUT. Like most BASICs, the ZX80 returns an empty string if you just hit return.

In Trellis, OTOH, INPUT asks "What next?", and it asks again (and again) in response to just hitting return.

So my version of @bigcar2.bsky.social's golf just waits for a key press after each hole.

2/?
Suddenly remembered this @bigcar2.bsky.social ZX80 Golf game - so quickly (after hitting a problem) knocked together the original (complete with silly bug), and the tidied/bug-fixed version as (a single) Trellis script (with a quick menu to choose which version to play at the start)

Just watched this youtu.be/UbrmXWlgo8w?... by @bigcar2.bsky.social and thought, "daft game, but... I could probably create a version in Trellis."

Might do when next I have the relevant RISC OS box on, just for the hell of it. The 2024 version he refers to, as well.

And *could* later add photos. 🤔

Okay, I've now spent fifteen minutes on it after coming back from shopping.

No definite digits found yet (unsurprisingly), but some pencilling in done. This is a bastard.

And now I *must* put it to one side. 🫤

The video. youtu.be/ite7WigjGGI?...

I won't be watching it myself until I've at least had a good crack at the puzzle.

There is a corresponding YouTube video where a Sudoku expert (I guess) tackles it - found it in my recommendations; how I found the puzzle.

It's over two hours long, though. No idea if that's edited down, or if he succeeds. I suspect I'll be lucky if I get the first digit in that time. 🤣
Wow!

At first glance.... 😲😬!

I suspect it will take quite a bit of time to solve - so I'm not even going to try right now (I do need to prep for the #RISC_OS London Show this week, after all).

Bookmarked to come back to when I have more time.

Such as when I retire. 🤣

Had a bit of a YouTube afternoon, finishing off with some Dartmoor stuff which made me realise: a work-related day earlier this year aside, I haven't been down there for *years*.

I'll fix that next summer (initially thought Feb, but I'll probably go North in March coinciding with the RISC OS show).

Fascinating. My mates and I hung around near the radar that was here back in the day - and in particular the command bunker they note at the 20 minute mark, and some pill boxes that were v.close.

(The inside they show of a different one pretty much matches my memory).

I think we are on the verge of the apocalypse. Today, I saw what must truly be one of the signs that we are in the end times.

I was in traffic, behind a Mercedes... and its driver waited to let another car pull out from a side road. 😮
What do you mean? I see no issues with it at all? It's not as though anyone is working on the wrong side of a screen, or sat IN a desk, or... or... or... um...😬
I know, and it irritates me.

It started, I think, when form started to be put before function - whether the fault of (younger) designers or (younger) managers forcing ideas* on those below them.

* Mandating stupidity.
It's good to know that now we are 25 years into the 21st century, the various technologies we enjoyed growing up have progressed to a point they all work so well together. 🤷‍♂️
For me, nine times out of ten the YouTube app on one of my TVs plays its start up sound through the TV speaker, even if:

* I have headphones plugged in
* I have disabled the speakers (audio output = headphones only) in the TV settings

* And even if I hit mute before launching it.
No. Let ME eat cake!
Real life example of the truth in this from Tuesday: I was sat at my desk, confused by some data on my screen, when someone came over with a piece of cake for me. She commented about the change in my expression, which immediately went from "WTF is going on, this makes no sense 🫤" to "Oooh, cake! 😃"
Too bad they're the wrong five words.

Everyone knows the right five words to make someone happy are, "I saved you some cake."
Hannah Fry knows five words to make you happy.

A bit more economical than the Technomage's 14 words?

Indeed.

You can use the search with a term like 'horror' - but that's a crap way to browse, because you have to punch through to each title for the details.

And probably doesn't give you all the results - Netflix, like everyone else, has a terrible search.
