Grateful to Karin Schachinger and Sarina Daryanani for the opportunity to join today and for the wonderful leadership of local community Gynaecology services.
A step in the right direction from the government - menopause screening will be included in NHS health checks for women aged 40–74. A result of decades of campaigning and hard work from women, health professionals and campaigners from across the UK.
The Baroness interacted with service providers and users to understand their needs, views and feedback. Grateful to our patient representative for her valuable input.
The Islington GP Federation provides vital community Gynaecology services including specialised menopause care to so many women and we discussed how such services can transform patient pathways and experiences positively.
It was wonderful to meet Baroness Gillian Merron (Minister for Women’s Health and Mental Health and Member of the House of Lords) at the Killick Street Health Centre today on the occasion of announcement of bringing menopause to routine health checks on the NHS.
Thank you Dani Binnington and Phoebe Cardew at Menopause and Cancer and Mr Bassel Wattar for all your help and input.

And this year, we have completed a much larger survey in women who had menopause both before and after their cancer diagnosis with over 1300 responses, the findings of which we will present shortly.
It is good to see our findings published. We presented these as a poster at the British Menopause Society conference earlier this year.
We started with this small survey to capture the experiences of menopause care in cancer survivors in the UK last year.
For other women, avoiding too much of oestrogen in HRT or even stopping HRT can be equally important to avoid migraines as a side effect. Individualising the treatment regimen and optimising dose and route of hormones are key.
For many women, migraines triggered by declining hormones can respond to HRT alongside other symptoms. Continuous combined HRT usually administered through skin (gel/patch/spray) is usually preferred. Some women prefer the combined contraceptive pill if it is safe for them.
Higher plasma CGRP levels are observed in women compared with men, indicating that CGRP and oestrogen systems may be intertwined.
Unstable and declining levels of estrogen can predispose women to the onset of migraine attacks. Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) signaling has emerged as a prominent mediator of migraine and is the target of several therapeutic advances in the acute and preventive treatment of migraine.
Migraine is a common, chronic, highly disabling neurological disorder that affects women at a higher rate than men. The frequency/severity of migraine varies throughout the stages of a woman’s life. Fluctuations in sex hormones like oestrogen, appear to influence susceptibility to migraine attacks.
Anti-CGRP medications which block the activity of protein CGRP have been a valuable breakthrough in treatment of acute migraine attacks and for preventive therapy.
Here is a review that explores migraine through the different reproductive stages of a woman’s life: puberty and menstruation, pregnancy, and throughout the menopausal transition, with a focus on oestrogen and its interplay with CGRP.

Personally for me it was a unique learning experience participating in the JLA workshop on Friday and listening to women’s and health professional’s views on what is important to them. Thank you Verity and JLA.
After 18 months of collaboration between Verity (PCOS UK), Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, and the James Lind Alliance, it is time to reveal the results of the national Priority Setting Partnership for PCOS.

Thank you Photoulla for all the amazing work you do for BTM men and women.
Little specific research exists when it comes to BTM and menopause.
