When I was taking this my sis said “This is a perfect #hoahoa moon.” So I had to. #hoahoaseason

Watching a deceased whale get towed out of our “backyard” wasn’t on my bingo card for 2025. We were grateful the coast guard came to tow it away as this was about 2.5 hours from a high tide that was pushing straight to our house.

No official word on cause of death, but lots of speculation.

Gorgeous, BRIGHT rainbow today 🌈

The episode, “Special Salmon,” is about respecting salmon, and the danger of what is happening to our salmon now, more prescient now than ever.

An adapted story of Fog Woman appears in one of the episodes of #mollyofdenali out this week, and boooyyyyy was I nervous about how it would look when all finished. But it turned out beautiful!

They’re all already up on the PBS KIDS app for free, or airing nationally throughout this week and coming weeks.

Amidst tough public broadcasting news and outlooks in recent days, we can still celebrate the work we did and usher this last season of stories out with pride. Four new episodes - eight new stories! - of Molly of Denali are airing this week on PBS and they’re almost entirely Indigenous-written! 💪🏽

PBS News is not going anywhere.

We will continue our work without fear or favor, as we have for nearly five decades on the air.

We are profoundly grateful to Viewers Like You for your loyalty and unwavering support.

We’re used to the neighborhood seal calmly bobbing along and watching us. But today he wanted to make a big splash! #alaska

Not Suki!! 😂😂😂

This seal was fixated on Joe! Despite getting skunked, it was a nice night of fishing. 🎣

Bonus points:

- If you voted for them before, let them know
- Point out specifically what is harmful (Medicaid loss, utility bill spike, etc.)
- If you’re registered in the same party as them, let them know
- If you get your spouse, friends, etc. to also make a call
- If you follow up with an email
verastarbard.bsky.social
It becomes a numbers game, taking into consideration how much of the calls are a) for or against what they’re considering, and b) from VOTERS.

You don’t have to be flowery or say much except who you are, where you’re from, and the action you want them to take. Done!

I timed it - this took me 20 SECONDS!

A legislative aid in D.C. told us that representatives absolutely can be impacted by call-ins and emails from their constituents.

Seriously - people think we go crazy in the winter but it’s the summer that hits so wild

My now-annual repost for summer solstice - just a look at Alaska’s “midnight sun.” It looks different here in Juneau, and even lighter the more north you get than where this was filmed in Anchorage.

Happy Solstice!

BREAKING: A federal judge reversed National Institutes of Health's terminations of hundreds of critical research grants that were canceled because of their alleged connection to disfavored topics, including diversity, equity, inclusion, and gender identity.

This is a major win for public health.
