do. whether intentional or not, we all have to really understand the context of what we’re doing (especially when we’re doing them publicly) & why tensions are heightened rn. things like this & unintentionally (perhaps…) using certain symbols is extremely different than it was even 10 years ago.

i don’t see it as “victim-blaming” to suggest that framing sexuality as “private” lends itself to the idea that queerness is somehow “shameful”&should never be brought in the open. str8 ppl never talk abt str8ness as something “private”—we are not immune to replicating our society’s homophobia

i’m not gonna lie, i don’t think rn is a time to act like gay ppl are 100% immune to perpetuating homophobia & homophobic stereotypes. acting like our identity as a marginalized & oppressed group somehow precludes us from living in society & being conditioned by the ideology of that society is gross

so the thing is, gay ppl can also perpetuate homophobic ideas & have internalized homophobia that they project onto other gay ppl. this also is not “clearly” abt anyone, it’s generally abt the attitude that gay ppl are not allowed to discuss the things they observe & identify with.
