I can't find a title for this glorious painting of autumn Aspen, but it's by Oregon based (Ukrainian born) artist, Anton Pavlenko, and I love it 💛

Today has gone too well. I had a nice wander around Liverpool this morning, discovered Manchester’s free buses at lunchtime and am apparently the only guest at the hostel this evening. I’ve also got all my language learning done and had a workout in a park. Now waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Just to add to the confusion I am now in Hull where I’ve seen a shop with the new name but the old blue colouring. How much money was someone paid for this?
uncannyval3.bsky.social
It’s “New Coke” all over again!

Goodness knows what they’re playing at. I would have no idea what shop it was if I didn’t know about the name change.

I have seen my first ever TJ Jones in the wild this morning in Liverpool. So let me get this straight, they’ve taken a well known brand, changed its name and made the shops look like a rip-off of TK Maxx, is that it?

Good to have the advocate with you, she sounds like a star.

Morning Neil - Guy has started another thread so we’re gathering there. :)

Hope things improve soon and you can be comfortable.

Good luck with the mammogram - it’s an awkward process but worth doing.
uncannyval3.bsky.social
Hope the weather stays reasonably good for you all, enjoy!

I’m hoping for time for a walk in both Liverpool and Hull as I’ve got all day. Nice to have an opportunity to explore a bit.

Good morning from Liverpool. Had a good drive to Middlewich yesterday then walked along the canal to Winsford to catch my train. Day off today, just travelling to Hull ready for tomorrow’s collection. Never been to Hull before! Have a good day all.

Next time an institution tells you how seriously it takes research misconduct, ask them if it's *this* seriously. www.bmj.com/content/297/...
In 1916 the BMJ published an article about the work done by James Shearer, an American physician working in the British Army as a sergeant (because he had no British qualification). He had described a
"delineator" which was better than x rays for portraying gunshot wounds. This caused a sensation and a lot of interest — but on investigation the work was found to have been invented. The BMJ published a retraction, but Shearer was tried by court martial and sentenced to death by firing squad.

William the Conqueror killed Harold II at Hastings on this day 1066. Of his Harrying of the North, one writer said: 'So terrible a famine fell upon the humble and defenceless people, that more than 100,000 Christian folk of both sexes, young and old alike, perished of hunger.'

Another one falls in Kent.

Reform has suspended county councillor Robert Ford after a complaint was made about him by 'several female members of staff.'

The party said that Cllr Ford refused to engage with the complaints process, so he has had the whip removed pending a disciplinary process.

Hey @lukepollard.bsky.social

Have a look at my thread about Derriford. I’m the woman who was in touch with you about ferrying Nigerian care workers home due last year’s race riots

Meanwhile - St George flags besmirch Forder Valley on the way up to Derriford & the REI, where so many people 1/2

Anyway - the stellar staff we have seen include:

Dr Abu from The Sudan (fled to get to Egypt when a kid, now a wonderful doctor)
Joy from Malaysia who sped around Resus for 12 hours without pause
Nurses Elizabetta & Esitio on The Medical ward
Dr Hasan on call
Julietta from Poland who makes + tea

2/2 What concerns me is that she will be discharged without long enough monitoring & with a 10 month wait until ablation is possible & we’re back to square one.

It’s a hellhole there (staff doing their best etc )

Morning Guy and ORCs, from Chatham station en route to today’s collection. This plaque commemorating Asquith Xavier is in the waiting room - he was a Windrush arrival and the first black guard employed at Euston, breaking an unofficial colour bar.
Large bronze coloured plaque behind a clear Perspex sheet, mounted on a grey tiled wall. The plaque has a large portrait of Asquith Xavier and accompanying text telling his story.
