Girl, woman, other by Bernardine Evaristo is a story about a group of Black women. And one nonbinary person, some of whom are queer/have queer partners or family members.

Nimona by Stevenson is a story about how one becomes a villain. Also prejudice. Also the protagonist is kinda gay.

I was disappointed in the ending tbh. Way too many unanswered questions. 😮‍💨 Also it started off with fighting against class oppression and trying to fix the system. By the end of it nothing changed besides people in charge.

I don't like this lady. I don't know enough about Krypton to make a conclusion but to *expect" Kara to give up everything that makes her a Kryptonian at a moment's notice is just unbelievably cruel. But then again I don't think the boss (whatever her name was) ever wanted to be a hero.

Boss: He saved you, sure. Promised to follow you to earth.

But he refused to accept that your people's ways drove krypton to ruin.

He may have saved your home for a minute, but his ego led to argo city's destruction.

Ego. Superiority. I need to be sure you didn't bring that part of krypton with you.

Because I can't allow the earth to go Krypton's way.

...This will never feel right. It is like yesterday I was on krypton. The world was not breakable. I actually knew what quiet was.

I was nearly certified before the science council. But the technology here is so rudimentary I hardly know how to use it.

Just as I start to understand english, there are hundreds of other languages to learn.

Argo city is gone. My mother and father are dead. Chase is right. I have not had twenty years to deal with it like Kal.

Fascism purges and destroys in the name of purity; liberalism arrives as the hero to “restore order” - solidifying and facilitating power back to capital and paving the way for the techno-oligarch future. Together they maintain the same architecture of control - the very same hierarchy of whose lives are livable, whose deaths are acceptable, and whose futures are imaginable.
The system was never built to serve us. It was built to preserve itself. So when I say I’ve lost faith in it, this is what I mean. No future can bloom inside its walls - only an endless, decaying present. The only path forward is to imagine beyond them, to see past the horizon of the flag, past the language of empire, past the myth of order itself.
They are bound—both in their minds and in the lines they draw on maps. By their borders. We are not. We live on a horizon they cannot even imagine.
Ezra Klein ends his op-ed with the line, “we are all safe or none of us are.” But trans women murdered in silence have never been safe. Immigrants who are snatched off the streets in the name of “order” have never been safe. Palestinians erased in the name of “peace” have never been safe. Safety for whom? The truth is not “we are all safe or none of us are.”
The truth is: we are all liberated, or none of us are.
