The latest Steam Next Fest is here, and you're probably overwhelmed by its thousands of options. Luckily, we've dug through much of its offerings and have come up with five must-play demos to check out, including at least a few you probably haven't heard of:

Never played Jusant, actually. But it definitely feels quite sim-like in how you control each limb independently.

Gets really tense sometimes too when you're way, way up and your character's leg or arm starts quivering from exhaustion as you scan desperately for the next crack or outcrop to grab.

Reminder to play the Cairn demo. Blends light survival with a wildly clever, tactile climbing system. A puzzle game in disguise. Lots of different routes up the mountain that you have to gauge yourself, making strategic use of ropes, pitons, natural handholds, etc. Really good shit.

Too misty to see unfortunately! I did read about it, though.

Misty walk along the North Yorkshire coast. 📸
Misty headlands with grass in the foreground. Sheep grazing in a field. A village in the distance shrouded in fog. A small harbour town with a foggy coastline in the far distance.

Pretty surreal playing Snake Eater 20 years later and seeing a magazine you wrote for just chilling on a table in a Soviet research lab.
MGS3 running on a PS2. Big Boss zooms into a magazine cover with his scope.

Been playing the original release of Snake Eater on PS2 and my room temperature take is that it's better. The fixed camera angles are more dramatic and make it feel more connected to MGS1 and 2. It also gives the stealth an interesting flow and rhythm that you don't get in third-person.

Does my head in. I don’t need to be told that board games are a time-honoured traditional pastime which can be enjoyed by friends and families alike. Are all the bits in it?
