4/ 🗣️ Prof Thomas Foltynie (@uclqsion.bsky.social) says: “We’re prioritising drugs that already show promise — aiming to find one that does more than just relieve symptoms. This trial could be a blueprint for future neurodegenerative research.”
We are prioritising drugs that already show promise as potential treatments, based on an extensive review of prior evidence, as we seek to identify a drug that does more than just provide symptom relief for Parkinson’s. We hope this trial will serve as a blueprint for future trials in Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative conditions.
3/ 🏥 Up to 1,600 participants will be recruited from 40+ hospitals across the UK. Sites in London (UCLH) and Newcastle are already enrolling. Others will follow by next April. People with Parkinson’s can register interest here: redcap.nuth.nhs.uk/surveys/?s=D...

2/ 💊 The EJS ACT-PD trial uses a cutting-edge design to test multiple treatments in parallel; potentially shaving 3 years off the time it takes to evaluate a drug candidate.

When I began recording the activity of neurons, it seemed like magic: we would shine a stimulus in front of the eyes, and the neurons in the visual cortex would spring to life. It still feels magical, 35 years later.
