🎊 Happy Birthday Amsterdam!🎊

There are archaeological records dating back to around 1200, the official birthday is October 27, 1275. This date is mentioned in a document in which Floris V grants the residents of the city free travel.

🎙️ Episode 4 - Anachronistic Objects

We examine how objects can outlast their original meanings and acquire new identities over time, and discuss anachronistic objects, artefacts reinterpreted long after their creation, through the example of the Hammer of Saint Martin.

Here’s Stefanie’s first attempt at archaeology journaling.

The object is centre stage, but there is less information on the page. Stefanie added some leaflets from the museum, including a floor plan.

It is a work in progress!

Archaeology Journaling: Hammer of St. Martin

With the latest episode, we visited the Catharijnconvent Museum in Utrecht to see the object and draw it on site.

This is Jona’s entry in the archaeology journal.

🎙️ Episode 3 - Drawing a Hammer

In this episode, we are visiting the Museum Catharijneconvent in Utrecht (Netherlands), where an object stands right at the entrance, which Jona picked to take a closer look at: a medieval (ceremonial?) hammer built up based on an axehead from around 1000 BCE.
Before episode 3 of Things We Threw Away is released in a week's time, how about we play a guessing game?

In the upcoming episode, we will be talking about an object, but can you guess which one?

There is a hint in the shadow drawing Jona did.

Here's another hint: We went on a field trip!
Now that we're two episodes in, we thought we'd give you a little insight into our workflow!

The drawings are from Jona. She made them while Stefanie was editing her show notes.

Any questions about the steps? Let us know!
