Saw that Halloween bulk candy was on sale, so I made my best guess as to how many customers the new house will get in this denser, family neighborhood vs at our old house (which was 1-2 groups).

And the little knee-biters better like what I got, because even on sale that shit ain't cheap!

I will remember a face forever, but retain their name for about 90 seconds no matter how hard I try to recall it. It's not a gift.

Also worth noting that during Trump 1 we lost 20% of soybean exports. That never came back. And now foreign countries see just how capricious & arbitrary the US gov't can be in a very short time.

US farmers are saying they "just need temporary help, until things get better."

Here's the thing. US farm exports- which are mostly soy- CANNOT get better.

Other countries expanded their soy industries to fill China's demand.

We've walled ourselves out of the global market, folks. This is it.

In my case, it was breaded salmon patties at a pub one day. I was trying to work more fish into a college diet. (Though fried still, I know. I was 22.)

Yeah. We were at a pub & I was going to get the breaded salmon patties. "Ah, so... you might not want to get that..." was how it all came about. Wasn't being scary or salacious, just friendly advice type thing.

I figured he had 5 years in the industry so knew what he was talking about.

Could be. There's always a risk eating processed food you can't see before buying.

And I'm 100% sure canned salmon, pre-made patties, etc are totally fine. But he actively avoided processed salmon, and I didn't see any reason why he'd lie. He was just giving me friendly advice at a pub one day.

I love salmon! The IQF ones from Costco are great, last forever in the freezer, and pretty inexpensive. They're easy to tear up for salmon patties, fish balls, salad, etc. Just defrost them in a bowl under trickling cold tap water for 30 minutes or so and it's ready to go!

Also, I recall him mentioning something about how they said it's all pasteurized, so not unsafe since the entire facility was inspected for food handling and the like. They weren't *supposed* to use sweepings, but they also weren't supposed to throw way product. Everyone wanted their bonuses.

IIRC, the focus was mostly on the whole cuts, the stuff people can see. The canned stuff was a by-product of that processing & could basically come from... anywhere along the process.

Granted, that was one person's anecdote, but he avoided canned salmon, salmon cakes/patties, etc like the plague.

A friend in college paid his way by working for a salmon processor in Alaska during the summers. There was very little waste, even including the salmon bits encrusted in the machines found during cleanup, or on the floor/in the mats.

Under no circumstances should you ever eat canned salmon.
