On the other hand, the second half of @kefkaesquexiii.bsky.social's reply (to paraphrase, as a school for mercenaries, Balamb is more likely to get attacked by a mililary) definitely applies Garreg Mach.
I want to call Garreg Mach Monastery from Fire Emblem: Three Houses an example of this phenomenon, but it's more of a military academy that happens to teach some combat magic than a magic school.
You ever notice that whenever there’s a magic school in a work of fiction it inevitably gets invaded? RWBY. Harry Potter. This game. I thought that was interesting

Luke explaining why he gave R2 his lightsaber:
While Earthbound wasn't exactly what I expected coming from the works it inspired (surprisingly few things can be "check"ed), it's a classic for a reason, it inspired people for a reason.

If you're reading this and you haven't played it yet, you should, because it's an excellent game.
The Franklin Badge did so much work in Magicant.
I'm more worried about his Z'gok.
Before posting the above, I looked up some info about 1/128 drops to check whether my assumption that the Casey bat was a 1/128 drop was true... which let me know just how fortunate I was to get a Star Pendant from a Major Psychic Psycho. It made 8th Sanctuary Guardian much easier to defeat.
The obvious synergy would be to use an accuracy-increasing skill or piece of equipment alongside the bat, but I haven't found any. I can't even try to make slightly better use of it with stat boosters because I don't know what stat governs accuracy.
I got the Casey Bat when Spying on Mr. Belch during the refight, but I can't find a use for it. It misses way too often to be useful in ordinary fights, and I can't tell whether it doles out enough raw damage-per-hit to make up for its miss rate in boss fights.
Visiting the Sanctuaries in order feels a lot less necessary now that I know where the 5th and 6th ones are (albeit only in terms of where to look).
The 7th "Your Sanctuary"? I thought this would be the 5th one.
In the Deep Darkness, you can find regular enemies that look like recolors of Mr. Belch. This made Mr. Belch returning for a rematch into a surprise.
Real, I do feel serious as fuck right now.
On a related note, PSI Shield β and feeling strange interact in a pretty nasty way. If you hit yourself while you have a PSI Shield β up, you'll take both the damage from your own attack and the damage reflected by the shield.
I definitely made reaching the Your Sanctuary in Winters more complicated than it needed to be.

"I'll just pop over to that phone before fighting the boss" became "oh crap that's a lot of damage" and "I need to teleport to a hospital" pretty quickly, but I beat the guardian on my first try.
Good news: Dropping or selling key items appears to be impossible.

Bad news: That means Paula is the only party member whose inventory isn't cluttered as hell.

I think I know why Ness had a psychic vision while drinking that cup of coffee: It tasted really bad.
