Up & at it before the Jackdaws & Rooks (& Geese) woke up. Fieldfares & Redwings were my #FirstBirdOfMyDay already arguing over Yew berries…
…before they will move on to the #Hedges to continue their debate over the Haws & Sloes.
Robins & Blackbirds trying to hold their territory but just too many.
Snap with you on Robins for #FirstBirdOfMyDay on a very dreich day.

Wrens, Blackbirds and Goldcrests are also awake but the Robins most vocal.
Thank you for sharing 🙏
Costa del Carse of #Stirling giving a “Red Sky at Night”? False signal as rain is forecast?

Lots of #Geese on the move after flocks of Fieldfares & Redwings earlier.
Then, Hitchcock-esque numbers of crows before this picture (from their post-ploughing worm hunting?).
#LastBirdOfMyDay #Birds
Aren’t they beautiful; almost as if [visually!] such a structure, colours and formation wouldn’t look out of place on the side of a coral reef…
… I’m afraid I think it is Honey Fungus so the Ornamental Cherry Tree’s days are numbered, sadly.

Lots of fungi of course help trees (indeed many are essential), but Honey Fungus will kill trees and it particularly likes Cherries for hosts.
💚 nearly “snap”; a #BarnOwl for #FirstBirdOfMyDay flitting between the Oaks in the Inner Park and hovering above patches of rushes. Perhaps from one of our 🦉boxes? 🤞🙏

Pretty quiet as Jackdaws & Rooks are still dozing, so only alarm calls were from Robins, The Tits, Blackbirds and Goldcrests.
#Geese lifting off from one of their favourite spots here, the sheep- & cattle-grazing pasture on either side of the #RiverForth, though about a 1/3 were on the Barley stubble.
Mostly Pinkfoot, but there were Greylag, Canada and some Barnacle earlier. #LastBirdOfMyDay.
#Meiklewood. #Stirling #Birds
#FungiFriday : burst of activity in the lawns; probably the positions of long gone shrubs or small trees…
… slightly nervous about the #Fungi at the base of the ornamental Cherry tree.
Extraordinary numbers of #Geese here now, more Pinkfoot than Greylag, and some Canada Geese.

Skein after skein flew in; this was 2hrs after they had started to arrive into this cut hay field and the grazing pasture on the other bank beside the #RiverForth.

Good morning to you from some of the #RedSquirrels here - who are playing a game of horizontal, vertical and cylindrical Tag.
A gorgeous “fresh” Speckled Wood enjoying the sun.

#Butterflies
Too many to count Pinkfoot Geese for #FirstBirdOfMyDay… huge numbers.

Their favourite roost area is where we have a very open field for hay. Open on purpose (lots of hedges around the place, don’t worry, but the #Geese far prefer wide-open area).
Safety in very big numbers.
Funny & 💚. Stopped for a cuppa. Went back out 30 mins later to finish some more of the clear-up and there were already Robins, Wrens and a particularly vocal Blackbird investigating in/on/around the dead hedge.
#Birds are smart.
This Beech #Tree has a #DeadHedge “Crown”, using the side branches, twigs and of course the rotten bits of the fallen Lime that has many insect burrows in it.

Should act as a good mulch, further guard from deer but most importantly a very substantial #Insect habitat and nesting site for #birds.
Yes - Red Admirals and a Comma butterfly… Bumblebees, Hoverflies and Honey bees.
Still going strong here in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 … survived #StormAmy and the butterflies & bees love the Asters (I was told this one is called, “New York” Aster but perhaps that’s just a generic name).
Sad to lose a big chunk of this gorgeous #Acer that had been given to my parents for a Diamond Wedding Anniversary… great colours for much of the year.

I’m trying to see a positive; it is basically aggressive “thinning” of the canopy and will allow light to borders beneath & behind.
#WalledGarden
#StormAmy was hard on #Trees still in leaf given the major gusts.

Had a nervous peak of Inner Park this morning to see damage; 1 Lime tree snapped at base (note the #Oak beside it was unharmed).
Oak trees seem to have lost branches, rather than “limbs” if you see what I mean.
