I just picked three random pop songs (Britney, Ace of Base, Mariah) I love from that era and isolated a section of lyrics that if you saw out of context in 2025 and slapped a modern artist’s name on there you might say they aren’t “good song writers”

Like if you take all of your personal bias and nostalgia out - a lot of the big pop bangers like Britney, spice girls, etc from that time was quite literally man-u-factored to be extremely generic and easy to understand by a wide diversity of consumers. Doesn’t make it “bad” it was the whole point

thinking about this again in the context of people saying that she’s not the songwriter her fans think she is and while I do think this is her poorest album lyrically to date, its worth considering that if she’s inspired by the 90s most pop music of that era isn’t lyrically complex or dense at all
My loneliness is killin' me (and I) I must confess, I still believe (still believe

Yeah, I think both sides of the fandom have taken that public discourse way too far

lmao this is going to be my new favorite way to respond to people online
Ruby rose thread says: You keep bringing up apples. I'm discussing sneakers. We are not in a debate because you missed the talking point.

This goes for muse-focused fans too - all genders inclusive. It’s fucking weird to flood a person’s social media with comments about your shipping desires and theories, particularly if it’s clear they have moved on to a new life. I’m not the comment police but if I was I’d tell you to knock it off

Just general activity but that’s part of it yes

And love everything spellingisfunlor said!! completely agree. We can fight for reading comprehension and try to push people to our interpretations but at the end of the day she is walking right into this discourse.

That she spoke about in that Zane interview is going to be tarnished beyond recognition.

If we want to take a Tay-to-Tay interpretation we can assume storm inside a teacup references both the idiom (a small event blown out of proportion) as well as the literal karma cup. We can assume table is at the restaurant, and that the failure is her past attempts at breaking the blender.
treepaineburner.bsky.social
And by saying lines such as “shelter here with me love” and “never met anyone like you before” she implies, to the general public at least, that this is about a current person in her life. Even if we believe she is referring to herself, using her Mama’s advice, nobody is going to get there.

All of this misinterpretation is a product of Taylor’s insistence on being indirect and switching from I to You pronouns in ways that are very hard for the general public and even her own fans to trace. Like we can assume “you finally left the table” to be referencing RWYLM, but we can’t be certain.

IMO there was literally no reason for Taylor to include the line “she was in her phone” and I think it was an irresponsible form of bait that idk how she couldn’t have predicted this reaction unless she planned for it. And in that case Travis should never have been mentioned in the promo at all.

Context is everything and in this case it can both support and reject this analysis. Confirmation bias gets worse when an idea is inserted into the collective consciousness and spreads like wild fire. Taylor even said herself that your personal experiences impact your interpretation of music.

I want to share this creators video because I think what he is saying is important. The words that Taylor has chosen to use are not in themselves racist or dog whistles, they are metaphors but the metaphors meaning changes when you apply the context to them. www.tiktok.com/t/ZTMywYtW4/
I’m hoping this brings clarity to the conversation about how we should interpret a metaphor

I personally think it’s really weird to flood a taylor-adjacent person’s comment section asking them to “confirm” or provide more information on PAlor or any aspects of taylor’s life. She’s giving us plenty of clues and lyrics on her own, and it kind of ruins the entire point of the storytelling.

I love that this could have so many meanings both literal and metaphorical lmao 🍃

It’s the BEST smell ever. Somehow so nostalgic yet also inspiring lol

upon further reflection I fully believe Charlie Puth is a good character (not evil) in this entire NR project and I think the teacher series he’s doing rn is an incredible pathway forward for fan education. I return to my original theory that the shout out for him was a nod to the lockdown era
