Last night, DeWine signed the budget. His vetoes did not include the binary sex definition. There are potentially far-reaching consequences, without clear details on which state services will be affected or how. Because of this, we are advising people to consider the following possible contingency preparations for IDs and state services: - If you want to update your Ohio state ID, do it NOW - Identify your support network now; plug into local community spaces - If you need to sign up for a state-sponsored program, do it now - Request 90-day prescription refills, if possible - Move up check-in appointments for state services, if possible - Review state health insurance options - Check-in with your providers Binary Sex Definition Explained: Last night, DeWine signed the budget. His vetoes did not include the binary sex definition. The budget’s new binary sex definition is potentially aimed at the whole Ohio Revised Code used to direct state programs and services. There are huge potential expenses and consequences, without clear details on which state services will be affected or how it will be implemented. This could still be used to restrict IDs and access to other state services. If you experience any issues accessing services please document everything and also let us know. We will keep everyone updated as this situation develops. There were also a few of good vetoes from the budget, including but not limited to these two below. Thank you so much to all of the community members, and support organizations that helped in pressing for these vetos: ❌ Stops funding youth homeless shelters that help LGBTQ+ youth and families ❌ Requires that all materials in libraries with any LGBTQ+ content be made inaccessible to minors The legislature can override vetoes with a 3/5 majority any time before January 1st. We will continue to update with any changes that may arise.

New language in the state budget bill has added one of the most restrictive anti trans ID bills in the country.

It would:

- Require “biological sex” on driver’s licenses and state IDs
- Put updated birth certificates out of compliance with federal Real ID law
