Well, today is the day yall. I am sooooo tired.

Part of why I left Minneapolis was because it was so hard to keep going about my daily life going past the places I was tear-gassed, saw people get shot. Words cannot describe the level of anger and grief I feel that im going thru it again in another city, that we’re all going thru it

Okay yall surgery is Monday. I do still need some help with this financislly especially to make sure I have money to cover bills and expenses while I’m recovering. I’m off from one job for 2 weeks but the other I cannot return to for at least 4 weeks

But it’s also so important to listen and be there. 5 years from now I don’t want to talk about my experiences now and get dead uncomprehending stares like I do when I talk about Minneapolis 2020

“I’m causing a problem, I should just shut up and keep it to myself” but people need to hear the personal stories, and we need the space to talk and process what we’re going through. And yeah it is uncomfortable to hear about this stuff, and it’s fine to give yourself a break from it

It can be profoundly alienating to try and talk about what we’re going thru to people who aren’t experiencing it. I felt this during and after Minneapolis too. You talk about something you experienced and they go quiet, get really uncomfortable. And you start to think “I shouldn’t have said that”

If you have not lived around and under threat of such intense violence it can be hard to comprehend how pervasive that stress is, what it does to you. if you are not in Chicago but know people who are, take the time to talk with them, hear about their feelings and experiences

ICE has been here for a while now but the South Shore raid followed up by multiple instances of tear gassing has been a huge escalation and you can see the stress and anxiety everyone is feeling so much more visibly

Good thread to read. Also important to consider this: If we had not rioted in Minneapolis Derek Chauvin would be walking free right now. Nothing Chicagoans can do will outweigh or justify the terror and suffering being inflicted on us right now.

A thing I think it’s important for USians not in currently-occupied cities to grasp is that the normal and everyday goes on alongside the violent and unprecedented.

In Chicago right now you can be forced off teargas-soaked streets in the morning and have a peaceful evening picnic on the lake.

I remember what it was like in Minneapolis waking up to the entire neighborhood smelling like tear gas. That wafted from over a mile away. Please if you are out there bring protection. Journalist Linda Tirado who covered the 2020 protests is dying from a TBI from a rubber bullet she took to the head

the thing about trans separatism is that the trans struggle is inseparable from the class struggle against capitalism and authoritarianism, and you’re not going to win that without solidarity
