The big ideological geographic sort? The role of ideological discrimination, social capital and social whispers in deciding where to live
Research on partisan geographic sorting has examined whether people's ideological preferences affect their decision about where to live. Part of the discussion is whether residential decisions are ...

🔍These effects are not driven by social capital or privacy concerns: almost everyone prefers high social capital and low social surveillance.

What do we find?

🎆Neighbourhood and mayor ideology significantly affect residential preferences.
🤝Left-leaning contexts are more tolerated than any other ideology.
🌇Sorting is more common on the extremes.

➡️What drives where we choose to live? Beyond prices, services, or commute times, does ideology also matter? We study whether political ideology shapes residential preferences.

📊Using a conjoint design, we move beyond US-centric studies.

🌇We also vary multiple neighbourhood characteristics.

Des de Molló estant, bona entrada d’any a tothom!

Thanks! I love your Christmas reading list 😃

But we have not tested *all* ways to show projections and scenarios, so the question is still valid. Thanks for the interest!

Could be. We tested several projections, and we got the same results. Some of the projections included in the article are based on real-world data and used by international organisations and climate agencies.

We have a working paper on the València DANA and the results are also similar.

😱“Fear appeals” or optimistic projections alone may not be enough to mobilise public support for climate change policies. We need alternative strategies to engage people in climate action.

📊We used experiments to test how exposure to different future climate scenarios affects public support for climate initiatives.

➡️The results? Exposure to these scenarios had no significant effect on people's willingness to support or fund climate action.

🌍🔥 Does showing people the future of climate change, whether dire or hopeful, actually change their willingness to act or pay for solutions?

Bon Nadal!🥂
