I cover St. Louis City SC and St. Louis University for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. And sometimes the Blues and the Cardinals. And sometimes other things.

St. Louis club BOHFS has to go on the road again in the third round of U.S. Open Cup qualifying, playing Omaha Street FC at CHI Nebraska Multisport Complex in La Vista, Neb., on Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. BOHFS is two wins away from making the main draw of the tournament
Hackworth and Critchley both said the priority in roster selection this weekend is for the first team to win. Jeong, Joyner are back in U.S., but won't join practice until Friday, so how much either will play Saturday is up in the air.
Roman Burki was talking about how MLS could improve even more with some rules changes, so I asked about going to a European fall-spring schedule. He practically jumped out of his chair: "I would love that. ... And I think the quality would increase again with a little break in the summer too. "
Mykhi Joyner and Gabriel Mikina of City2 earn first team MLS Next Pro honors, Miguel Perez gets honorable mention.
Emil Jaaskelainen had his second yellow rescinded from City2’s last game, which wiped out his red card, so he’ll be eligible for City2 on Sunday
Chances for Josh Sargent have taken a dip during this window
Orozco, Antwi the only first team players working with City2 today, but I would expect that number to go up later in the week

Simon Becher is having one of the weirdest MLS seasons I’ve seen.

Multiple games this season where he has created over an expected goal and just hasn’t had any finishing luck. 3 goals on 8.36 expected and 7.63 expected on target.

Underperforming his xG + xA by almost exactly 50% #allforcity

Simon Becher has the 2nd highest xG on City SC, which is something considering the minutes he plays. But he has just 3 goals and the highest goals below xG in MLS, which is why this season has been doubly frustrating for him. He reflects. www.stltoday.com/sports/profe...
Goals have been tough to come by for St. Louis City SC's Simon Becher
Simon Becher has had a tough time scoring for St. Louis City SC this season. His goal against Austin gives him some positivity heading into the offseason.

It's incredible when you consider how many important minutes SLU graduated last season.

Katie Shields has made A10 soccer an attractive option for local players who would have bolted for the first offer from a power conference five years ago.

Plus, doing it all without a pro club in market.
SLU women's soccer beats Duquesne 2-1 to go to 6-0 in the A-10. They'll face another 6-0 team, Dayton, on Thursday at Hermann Stadium. Regular-season title, and home field in the conference tournament final, could be at stake

MLS Wooden Spoon race heading into the final day Oct 18:

D.C. United 25 points (at ATL)
Atlanta 27 (vs DC)
L.A. Galaxy 27 (vs MIN)
Kansas City 27 (vs HOU)
With the SLU men beating VCU 2-0 tonight, some high-stakes matches at Hermann Stadium next/this week (depending when you read this). On Thursday, SLU women vs. Dayton with first place on the line, then on Saturday SLU men vs. Fordham with first on the line.
City SC holds 2-0 halftime lead against SKC; City SC doesn't give up two goals in last 15 minutes to Minnesota; City SC doesn't give up two goals in last 23 minutes to Chicago. Those right there and a win over RSL Saturday might have been enough to put City SC in the playoffs.
With RSL's loss, it's quite possible that the last playoff team in the West will have 40 points, and City SC, if it beats RSL in the season finale, will miss the playoffs by 7 points which is a) amazing and b) going to really sting considering how many points City SC gave away by blowing leads.
Real Salt Lake loses to Seattle 1-0, so it will be playing for a playoff spot when it comes to City SC next Saturday. (Though they could advance with a loss if other teams cooperate.)
Ream is the fourth US field player to get a cap after his 38th birthday and the first since Preki
Tim Ream, back in the starting lineup, and the captain again
SLU men's soccer plays at VCU on Saturday. The last time SLU beat VCU was 2021, a 4-1 win with a goal and an assist for Simon Becher (also a goal and an assist for John Klein) with Celio Pompeu scoring the goal for VCU. I asked Becher about it today: "I remind Celio about it all the time," he said
