Going to make a thread of free software that's useful for making zines (writing, illustrating, image processing, laying out, publishing...)
Different operating systems. Let's go...

This fall, join together to make minicomics in the return of the Cartoonist Coop's official autumn public art challenge: 🍂 CARTOONBER! 🍂

Team up with 1-3 creators, assign yourselves roles, make some comics together, and tag us with your finished pages on social media and use #cartoonber2025 !
Was rereading my own comics from way back in 2019 and its like Wow…..OP….ur mind….#SelfReblog…. I was really cooking then ….will i ever cook again? Good question
In a way I feel like I'm back at square one LMAO
I've always been a cartoonist...but I used to draw my actual self and not this birdsona
While compiling my zine list I reread a personal comic I made back in 2018 and was like whoa I didn't remember all of this XD but a good thing I recorded it.....honestly it seems like some things havent really changed

I've said before. AI isn't a program. It isn't an app on your phone. It isn't an idea. It's a very real physical building that can barely keep running by consuming multiple cities worth of resources. When the money runs out, and the utilities are cut, AI will cease to function.

Just a few more of my favorite things I've made over the past couple of years
I got an ask on tetratto about comic making process and I wrote up a whole long thingy here:

this is a great write-up of actionable tips for organizing zinefests, and also captures some of what I've enjoyed about the zinefests I've been part of. zine-centric fairs have absolutely been my best experiences as an author & creator.
Man I need to rewatch, saw years ago in high school but I don't think I appreciated as much
Aww how sweet! Hope she enjoyed...and yeah unfortunately I've seen that trend around where if you are generous sometimes ppl will take it for granted ...

I finished my #comic this week, “The Holy Cephalophore,” and have been scanning all day yesterday…hopefully will be able to pick up the proofs today!

It’s my first comic I’ve done 100% traditionally in years, done with pen and ink + Brush pen, about the Death of Richard the Lionheart.

Like I'm an indie zine & comics maker, I'm not aspiring to the same thing as ppl who wanna work for studios, so if I see advice for that I might be slightly interested but if I see advice that doesn't apply I will pass on it
It wasn't even an unsolicited critique to an individual person just a generic statement...but ppl I think see art advice online and think it MUST be talking DIRECTLY to them
Like "some people can't afford art school!!!" That's great....then u can learn from people giving out advice online....which includes evaluations and talking about industry standards...
Remembering that time on twt a professional industry artist made a post for her audience of other pro industry aspiring artists saying the most milquetoast "you need ur portfolio to be at a certain skill level to be hired for XYZ positions" and ppl from completely different art circles got mad at it
Someone asked "why dont artists post tutorials as much anymore? It's always behind a paywall"

I think it is because every single time I have seen a tutorial go viral people end up SCREAMING at the artist "how DARE you tell me how to draw?!"

sometimes you look through old sketchbooks and find out you were cooking
