Introducing @buwanatello.bsky.social, one of our Guest Writers! TMNT marked their ascension to a new world filled with fun and adventurous stories!
Red & Rude presents the Zine Guest Intros. Here we introduce Buwan (they/she/he), a Guest Writer for the zine. Bio: "It's the year 2003. I’m sitting in front of my CRT TV, Barbie in one hand, probably a yogurt in the other. On the screen: my first ever episode of the TMNT. I am enlightened. Fast forward to 2012. I’m waiting for the premiere of the new pilot. I have ascended. When we get to 2022, I’m watching Rise. I am reborn. (Just kidding. Mostly.) I’m delighted to join the incredible talent and passion behind this project. When I’m not writing extensive essays about turtles over on YouTube, I’m probably writing another extensive essay on media and writing at university. Or playing video games." Their writing sample is the following: "On the other hand, though, his aggressively confident front is a way to cover up his fear of being rejected by the people who do matter to him. This can be read as a completely unrelated issue as well, but in this context, I think this connects with the queer audience because we all know what it’s like to be pushed out, to feel ignored, and to know you will never truly be a part of the bigger whole. That there is always going to be a level of otherness to you. Our community was built on that commonality. For many of us, bravado is a mask that we wear in the face of that rejection, that we hope will someday become real. And even if it’s not necessarily for the same reason, Leo makes that connection to people who, on some level, have been in his place."
