Why is the incumbent spending so much time focusing on Myke?

B/c the incumbent knows Myke Atkinson is the person to beat in Ward 7.

Want to see a masterclass on what not to do as an incumbent? Not only did Terry Wong mention his main threat, Myke Atkinson, he spent two hours combing through his campaign material on FBLive. Easy to find, but here is the material they went through. #yyc #ward7 www.mykeatkinson.ca/mykedrops/ne...
Did you get your newspaper? — Myke Atkinson for Ward 7, Calgary City Councillor
Myke Atkinson’s 12-page Ward 7 campaign flyer has reached thousands of homes. Read it online or help distribute copies in your apartment building.

Ballot consolidation did not occur and Ward 7 runs the risk of splitting the progressive votes again in 2025.

I like all 3 candidates I mentioned below. But I have narrowed things down to one:

Myke Atkinson

Hey #Calgary Ward 7!
It’s 36 days until the municipal election and it’s still a crowded slate of progressive candidates.

Will these three do the right thing, take care of the ranked ballot we don’t have & narrow the field to one?

Great to see Andy Boenau posting more on Bluesky. 😀

Three new books out this fall… as Zipper points out, step 1 for society is acknowledging there is a problem.

Are we there yet?
Three books released in fall 2025 that cover the topic of cars and their negative impacts on society.

Nice! So you probably came across this from time to time near the Inglewood bird sanctuary.

Sometime in the 1940s a refinery was built in this area and remained until the 1980s. The flare stack is in the bottom right (SE) corner. I suspect it burns off stuff from that site which is likely heavily regulated in its monitoring etc.

No sweat happens. It’s only 3km. I purposely ride not fast so I don’t sweat. That way the same clothes worn all day.

It’s just like choosing to walk instead of run when on foot.

Good fenders prevent any mud etc from getting messy.

As many have guessed, the first question people ask me is “what will you do in the winter?”

Upon confirming I plan to bike, the conversation always leads to “what kind of bike will I ride” and “do I have wide or special tires?”
tinybeaches.bsky.social
No, I don’t get that one. Mostly because I preemptively explain that I don’t change clothes, nor do I go fast enough to even sweat.
tinybeaches.bsky.social
That one hasn’t come up.
tinybeaches.bsky.social
Is the next question:
A. Do you have safe protected lanes to ride in?
B. Do you ride an ebike?
C. What will you do in the winter?
tinybeaches.bsky.social
I started working at a new office. It’s in downtown Calgary and I have been commuting the 3.5km by bicycle.

In the course of meeting people the question “what’s your commute like” comes up. I explain that I bike and that it’s a short ride.

Guess what question comes up, ever, single time? 🤔

Nice! For my 3.5km commute to work only 0.4km is on street with no bike lane. The rest is either separated bike lane with barrier, or is on multi use pathways. 👍

These revisions have occurred over a couple years, meaning in that time the bicycle infrastructure has appeared to be in existence to people who don’t ride, but not reliable for those who do ride.

This makes people not use this infrastructure who would, and those who don’t think nobody uses it.🤷‍♂️

The reason why this video is being shared and not hidden out of respect due to a fatality is b/c Airdrie has a 30km/h residential speed limit.

This is not to excuse the driver for what happened. Lower speeds are safer for people walking when people driving make mistakes.

This is not to excuse the driver, but the reason why we are even watching this video and why it’s not a fatality is because Airdrie has a city wide 30km/h speed limit.

30km/h has an significantly lower fatality risk in driver vs walker collisions.

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

Finally the street has the wheeling lane painted all the way to the ramp. They’ve even scrubbed the old paint that led to the old sidewalk ramp. But the original flexiposts are still there blocking the path. 🤨
