Did anyone else get school sh**ter themes from Weapons?
I try my best to keep my religious beliefs private and not talk about them on social media, but I CAN NOT WAIT for The Great Pumpkin to rise from from his earthen prison and devour all of you unbelievers.

When Joe Strummer was asked for comic shop advice, he was very direct: "Go straight to Hellboy." He repeated: "Go straight to Hellboy."
When confronted with the important question of what is in the corner, Michael Stipe churned out this crap: "That's me in the corner/That's me in the spotlight/Losing my religion."

While Mike Mignola, conversely, responded with the all-time classic "Is that a monkey?" "WITH A GUN!" "BLAM BLAM"

So…I read the “Star Trek is for men” article and…what?! I’m not convinced the author knows what counter culture is, what women like, or what Star Trek is about. There seems to be a contingent of Sci-fi fans out there that confuse being dangerous or counterculture with being a contrarian misogynist.
Anyway, these “To heal this country more people should be dating conservatives” “Go woke go broke”-style takes are absurd and shouldn’t be taken seriously. The real answer is “Change your hearts or die.” Also, sorry this is so long, I woke up mad about this and now it’s everyone’s problem. End/?
The modern genre of #horror is super countercultural with things like Jordan Peele’s work and Zach Cregger’s Weapons. Peele’s TZ revival doesn’t get enough credit, though it does have its problems. 12/
The MCU spent 20 years getting us to root for the military industrial complex and Gunn’s DCU is showing us that between Waller and Flag, the government is a weapon that can be used to illegally imprison citizens and be turned against its own people. Sounds pretty anti-establishment to me. 11/
If I were to point at the real counter culture in media I might point to the resurgence of zine culture, but more popularly what James Gunn is doing with the DCU. Peacemaker is a complicated show discussing generational trauma, toxic masculinity & white supremecy 10/#sciencefiction #counterculture
That you can say that Jewish people deserve to feel safe and that antisemitism must be fought but also that the state of Israel has committed war crimes and ethnic cleansing against Palestinian citizens (noncombatant men, woman and children). These might be real counterculture topics to discuss. 9/
As a matter of fact, if one wanted to be counter culture in this day and age, one might talk about how both things can be true: That a person shouldn’t be murdered with a gun onstage and that this same person shouldn’t be deified for making millions spreading hate. 8/ #StarTrek #CounterCulture
Author, wizard, and sentient beard, Alan Moore recently did an interview where he proclaimed that we don’t have a modern counterculture. I kind of agree, but I think we’re getting there. People are marching, people are speaking out against an establishment that has all 3 branches of government 7/
The author of the piece posits that being counterculture is synonymous with denying trans people their identity. Which is weird because #StarTrek is all about “Infinite diversity in infinite combinations.” Counterculture isn’t “I don’t like this thing” without any self reflection as to why. 6/
Which is why every iteration of #StarTrek reacts to the world around it makes leaps and mistakes in doing so. There’s a reason why Discovery leaps forward to a world where The Federation is all but gone? Why do you think the writers might feel that way *gestures broadly at everything* 5/
Also, it’s worth noting that art ages. The culture changes and spec fix is not immune. Some stories in DV don’t work anymore, some episodes of Each of the iterations of Star Trek are cringeworthy for racial stereotypes or tacitly agreeing with forced removal of indigenous peoples. 4/ #StarTrek
That The Last Dangerous Visions was NEVER going to be a proper final installment because authors dropped out, and the world and culture changed. We are allowed to discuss many if not all the items that Ellison wanted tackled in DV. 3/ #StarTrek #HarlanEllison #CounterCulture #SciFi
I read a bunch of of the same takes after Ellison’s Last Dangerous Visions book was released. Saying that Ellison’s vision was ruined by woke authors. It was kind of weird because they ignored the fact that the book took over 50 years to be released, and that it was put together posthumously 2/
When your boy has the White House, both Houses of Congress, the Supreme Court, and the most watched media outlets is Fox News, you’re not the counter culture, you absolute fuzznuts.

That trumpet is the real villain of the movie.
