Creating local energy markets would make it easier for households and businesses to buy power from local, renewable sources.

This would make new community renewable energy businesses viable, helping to cut carbon emissions and potentially lower energy bills too.

Grateful to the ICB for listening to our campaign and choosing to restore this funding in Ambleside, Hawkshead, and Millom.

Last night in Mel Stride's Devon constituency, Liberal Democrats GAINED a seat from the Conservatives - the Conservatives dropped to just 10% of the vote.

And two great wins by our teams in Bath and Hampshire.

There can be absolutely no justification for cutting prices for dairy farmers by such a scale.

Enough is enough.

The Government’s imposed housebuilding targets mean that we will see 26,000 new homes built across Westmorland & Furness over the next 20 years.

It is vital that these new homes are not only affordable, but that they come with the extra services needed to support an increase in our population.

Long after he stepped down as leader, he would often holiday here in the Lakes and would take a day out to lend a hand with our campaigns alongside his beloved wife Elspeth.

I will miss him terribly and I'm praying for his family.

Ming Campbell was a hero of mine ever since I first became a Lib Dem activist back in my teens.

He did the honour of appointing me his PPS when he was leader. It was a privilege to learn from him and become his friend, a wondrous thing to be able to call someone who was also a hero.

The public toilets in Shap are under threat of closure once again due to the increased cost to the local parish council.

The toilets are not only important for people in the village but for the many visitors doing the Coast to Coast walk.

Some second homeowners let their property out for just a few days in a year so they can claim to be a small business.

This means that people on the minimum wage in places like the Lake District and subsidising very wealthy people to pay no council tax at all.

This must end.

The collapse of the long-term private rented sector into short-term holiday lets has resulted in many people not being able to afford to live and work in the Lakes.

Local planning authorities must be given the powers to limit the number of short-term lets in their communities.
