Join Abhishek Sinha for a TIFR Founder’s Day scientific lecture, exploring how robots (and humans) can learn to make quick, optimal decisions in unpredictable environments where the rules keep changing!

📅 Oct 30 | 🕑 2:15 PM
📍 Homi Bhabha Auditorium, TIFR, Mumbai
Anusha Shankar (@tifrhyderabad.bsky.social) delivered a Popular Lecture at @TIFRScience on the occasion of Founder's Day, exploring how tiny birds master light & energy to thrive in changing environments.

This year marks Dr. Homi J. Bhabha’s 116th birth anniversary (October 30).

4/ These findings help us better understand what might go wrong in conditions like Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s, where transport and cargo-sorting in neurons are disrupted. #Neurodegeneration #MolecularMotors
3/ Amal found that the BORC complex acts like a molecular logistics manager, helping motor proteins UNC-104 & UNC-116 direct synaptic and lysosomal proteins into separate compartments. This ensures smooth communication between neurons. #CellBiology
2/ Synaptic vesicles contain tiny chemical messengers in neurons called neurotransmitters. Before they reach their destination, they’re packed & sorted at the cell body—like loading docks before long highway trips. Amal’s thesis zoomed in on how this process works.
#PhDdefense Congratulations to Amal Mathew (@amalmathewkkt.bsky.social) on successfully defending his PhD at TIFR, Mumbai, under the guidance of Sandhya P. Koushika (@wormlockholmes.bsky.social), uncovering how neurons sort & transport molecular cargo with precision.

#TIFRScience #Neuroscience
#AwardAlert Prof. Anish Ghosh & Prof. Mythily Ramaswamy from #TIFRScience have been elected as INSA Fellows for 2026.

Their pioneering work in number theory, dynamics & control theory continues to advance mathematical sciences.
