i decided not to continue with peachtober because i feel my gut wanting to draw/work on other things that i am itching to do! todays piece was relatively fast but somehow this girl stepping into water came to mind

drawn in procreate
there is something grounding about drawing, but especially grounding when i get to doodle and draw whatever comes to mind or i feel like in the moment.

yay, peachtober begins! doing this challenge last year is what got me back into art. i love the cozy vibes of the prompts and seeing the work of other illustrators

for acorn, designed a lil house and am curious… who lives here?

drawing also allowed me to pay attention to the emotions and expressions on stage and had me in awe seeing how much fun the musicians were having too 🎷
it was so much fun and so much play, the music was mesmerizing and the energy both on and off stage was so in flow. i had not really been a jazz listener before but todays show put it all in a whole new perspective for me.
then later while the tokyo blue notes orchestra group played (absolutely phenomenal btw), i did some gestural sketches and played with color along with the music.
a whole day spent urban/life sketching! the portion i am sharing today is from an evening spent at the taipei jazz festival. i had prepped some sketchbook pages ahead of time blue and yellow and it fit the flashing yellow blue lights perfectly

grateful for how close to nature taipei is, and a bus ride up, could hear all the birds, insects, and water sounds. i also saw some giant butterflies, ants, and a centipede.
spent today doing life drawing in the mountains, it was really cool! perhaps that art will be shown another time. afterwards, painted a little bit at a cafe before the sun set.

but i think im starting to feel more comfortable playing with paints now. its late so i did something simple for the inside of my sketchbook and also did some prepping for more drawing this weekend ~
finally finally after thinking about it for ages i am starting to use my bigger sketchbook. i have been itching to paint for a long time but kept putting it off because i felt like my skills werent at a point yet where i was comfortable using up paints (theyre not cheap!)

its gotten me thinking to draw more asian women in a way that appeals to me, maybe more magical, wacky and powerful than any i’ve seen depicted in art
i wonder how my women/femme/queer ancestors lived their lives, and how they would have liked to live their lives if they could have chosen.
mindless doodling led to this funky portrait. anyway, asian women are often on my mind. i am one. and the experience of being one pervades my mind. how often we are conflated and stereotyped and assumptions be made.

first doodled in the sketchbook with some posca markers and color pencils. after some abstract patterns and a page formed, i decided to keep building on it via the ipad. looking into the shapes for what was there but also making it up as i went, a face came to be.

drawing a feeling. is it a person in a sleeping bag? or a worm with a humane face. either way, its a feeling of my scalp being pulled back, tight and snug. cozy and yet, somethings not quite right

rest is always important! todays piece is mixed media done at a vietnamese cafe in taipei. not a lot of people but managed to see a lady eating pho and a man using his phone!
wow i unintentionally took like a week break. a lot of life happened but a break was good! i feel ready to draw regularly again and its amazing how a week of not drawing can actually inform the drawing process.
