I wrote a custom network stack in C to run on my custom silicon RISC-V core, supporting both IPv4 and IPv6 and its now good enough to make HTTP requests. But maybe I'll turn that around and have it accept HTTP requests. We'll see.
feat. a really ugly bodge to prevent over-current on the memory bus

need people to stop making technology inspired by Star Trek (smooth, sleek, no buttons, all screen, voice activation, extremely minimal, wireless) and start making technology inspired by Star Wars (clunky buttons, indicator lights on everything, ugly, indestructible, fat cables that emit steam)

I have to one-up myself every year. Just wait. JUST WAIT for this year!

Its a bit all over the place and somewhat cursed, but ya'll will now be able to read about my most complex and most bugged custom EF Con Badge yet.

Another day, another cursed bodge in the morning.

Gorgeous dieshots of my two custom integrated circuits from GFMPW-1, and this new entry on my website with details on what I managed to accomplish on this shuttle: tholin.dev/custom_silic...

I am once again running large algorithms on hardware that was never, in anyone's dreams, designed to handle them!
This time: LLM on a Z80.

This took a really, really long time, so I hope people will at least find it funny.

I technically can, but it tastes funny.

I have booted Linux on the Eurofurence Cyber Badge and can now control the lightshow from the comfort of Linux userspace.

I have never ever written for money. I write for the things I will buy with that money.

Today, I successfully fit a whole DDR2 memory controller into a $1.50, 240 LU CPLD. It is ungodly slow, but appears to work without dropping bits. Lots of optimization left to do, but still got 25% unused space on the CPLD. github.com/89Mods/mini-...

You can now do real astronomy in my Avalon #VRChat world now that the telescope is adjustable with a working viewfinder, and get amazing views like this one. I also updated OpenFlight and the video player can now play side-by-side 3D videos.

TinyTapeout chips finally got delivered! This is where my whole journey into custom silicon began, so kinda ironic I’m receiving this long after my first fully custom ICs from GFMPW-0. Still, gonna do my best to test all of my designs on there.

Its not even been that long and people already had time to fill books with....what? 300 pages of prompts? How to use the OpenAI API? None of this sounds like information you need books for OR that will end in worthwhile projects.

New post up on my website about that one time I built a turing-complete computer around a 1-bit CPU. People keep telling me it has sigbovik vibes, so it must be good. tholin.dev/mc14500/

New page on my website for me to show some old and new side-projects of mine that I still think deserve some spotlight

New post up on my website about how I got to tape out my own custom ICs, what the results of that were, and using that custom silicon in a project.

This weekend, successfully revived a MCU from the GDR. The cursed staggered pins required a custom PCB. The extra pins are for an external ROM, as this is a dev version for a part that has a mask ROM. 8MHz, runs VERY hot, which is bad for a MCU, but consistent with other GDR ICs I own.

Hello Blue sky! For those who don’t know me already: I build fun things in both VR and RL. Migrating here from THE OTHER PLACE. Hopefully I can just pick up where I left off.
