Side-note, I don't believe Oda ONLY watched Tom and Jerry cartoons for his Gear 5 inspiration, he HAD to have seen Rod Scribner and Jim Tyer's animation at some point.

But really, having sat through several shonen anime, Luffy's max power-up (that we know of) being overly joyful, cartoony and reality-bending is such a breath of fresh air.

Obviously not knowing who a relatively obscure character isn't a problem, it's people wearing their lack of knowledge on lesser-known aspects of animation history as if it's a badge of honor (i.e. the ones who snap at anyone who even slightly disagree and/or insert historical context to said aspect)

Also just realized that the announcement of the Terrytoons on MeTV Toons makes those "Who the fuck cares about Mighty Mouse" posts that went viral on Twitter 2-3 times within the past 18 months or so look even more ridiculous than they already were.

Gotta find it funny and frustrating that the one entity now (Disney) holding out from sharing their Golden Age material on MeTV Toons (or at least putting a huge price tag on it) is THE reason the public domain extended from 75 to 95 years.

The Terrytoons news comes on top of Thunderbean content coming to the channel as well, so I can imagine many Ub Iwerks, Van Beuren and early-Famous Studios cartoons are not too far behind now.

All that money used to make live-action remake/sequel/etc. slop, especially another Lion King entry, would be better put to use to properly restoring and releasing the rest of the Disney animated library that isn't on Disney+ as of now (and yes, there's still a lot).
