You'd make a good little soldier.
( Batty commented without looking at Bruce, smirking. He got inside the vehicle and once Bruce got in as well, he took it to the air, heading towards a place only he knew about. )
Want some music?
He was sure he had looked like a mess. Then again, he'd looked way worse. And besides, he could get that towel and ice himself, but for some reason he enjoyed Bruce pampering him. )
Why? It's not your fault.
( It was the gin's fault, but Batty wasn't ready to admit that just yet. )
If you could get me that with a towel, that'd be great.
( The blood from his nose had trickled down to his chin and had drawn an outline to Batty's jawline.>
I hope soโ€ฆ I actually feel a little bit bad.

(He wasnโ€™t sure why. Bruce wasnโ€™t used to feeling too much guilt so it was always a little bit of a shock when he felt it so openly. It was a bit scary every single time, but he didnโ€™t try too insistently to push it away.)

Let me get you some ice forโ€”
Just messing with you, pal.
( Resisting the urge to laugh and make the pain worse, Batty slowly sat up then regained some sense of balance to rise to his feet.>
I wouldn't say it otherwise.
( Men like Batty would ice skate on thin ice. )
Do you really think that?

(Bruce knew that he was walking on thin ice, but he just couldnโ€™t help but to dig a little deeper.)
( Batty grinned at the fact they had thought of the same thing. )
Just like you, Rob.
( Batty grinned at the fact they had thought of the same thing. )
Just like you, Rob.
Short and sweet. Just like me.

(The same thought at the same time. Bruce seemed almost painfully pleased that he had thought of it though.)
Good because I like it too. It's short and sweet.
( "Like you" he thought and the fact that he did reflected on the way he was smiling. )
He grabbed the edge of a table just in case the tequila wanted him on the floor again. Then he raised his head and pinched the bridge of his nose. )
This will help. Don't worry, it's not broken.
Just messing with you, pal.
( Resisting the urge to laugh and make the pain worse, Batty slowly sat up then regained some sense of balance to rise to his feet.>
If it would help, I just might would do that.

(Would be? Bruce wasnโ€™t sure himself. He was even surprised that he had played right along with the idea. He had even considered leaning right over and placing a quick little smooch right where he suspected where it was broken, but that just felt likeโ€”
Broken? Oh no. Maybe it would heal faster if you kissed it better.
( Batty laughed at his own suggestion. Unfortunately for Bruce, he wasn't much of a help while drunk off his gin.>
I could if you asked nicely.
( Batty was onbiously in on the joke. There was no harm in a little fooling around with friends, right? )
Cool. Let's go.
( He walked out of the house and to his spinner, expecting Bruce to follow. )
Like chess? I'll admit I haven't played since I was a cadet.
( Batty chuckled, shaking his head at the other suggestion. )
You know what? If you win, I'll give you something hard from my doctor friend's batch.
A game of wits?

(Bruce definitely wasnโ€™t positive about that, but he liked to brag.)

The consumption of hard and illegal substances?
You bet, birthday boy.
( Batty chuckled as he quickly regained balance. He chose to not retaliate. )
What do you think you could beat me in?
You bet, birthday boy.
( Batty chuckled as he quickly regained balance. He chose to not retaliate. )
What do you think you could beat me in?
(Bruce felt his cheeks heat up slightly, but chose to ignore it. He always turned red far too easily.)

Physically Iโ€™m sure you could beat me. Easily.

(With that, Bruce shoved him slightly. Playfully and not particularly hard. He knew it would have been a losing battle.)
I like you too, Rob. You might be a pathetic loser like the rest of your unit, but at least you're pretty likeable.
( Bruce was given a few hard pats on the shoulder. )
I can handle any rough play you're into. I was made for it, pal.

I wouldnโ€™t be a bitch to you. I actually like you.

(Bruce smiled, carefully running his thumb over the top of the book. He didnโ€™t want to be too obvious, but it probably was.)

I mean, I would be a bitch to you, but only because itโ€™s funny. Never in a way that would actually hurt you though.
( At first Batty was convinced that Bruce would chuck the book right back in his face the way he couldn't conjure up a proper reaction. It was a pleasant surprise that Bruce had actually ended up liking the present. Batty smiled, somewhat relieved. )
You almost gave me a heart attack there.

(Bruce didnโ€™t hardly know how to respond. At first, all he could do was stare at the book in his hands for a few moments. He would open his mouth to speak, but the first few times, nothing came out.)

Iโ€ฆ I donโ€™t know what to say. Itโ€™s so personal.

(So thoughtful. How was he supposed to react?)โ€”
( Batty handed him a worn pocket notebook. )
This is a collection of poems I scibbled down during my cadet years. Since you said you wanted to read more of my poems and all, I figured you'd appreciate it. If you don't like it, you can use it as a paperweight or whatever. Happy birthday, pal.

( "Like you" he thought and the fact that he did reflected on the way he was smiling. )
Yeah. I think I like it.

(Bruce grinned as he spoke, not even trying to stop himself. It wasnโ€™t Robbo and he found that he liked that it wasnโ€™t. It was a real name. Not something cutesy someone had just tacked onto him.)
Sorry, can I call you Rob?
( Judging by the other man's smile that Batty reflected, he didn't seem to mind it. It never hurt to ask, though. )
It was clear to Batty that Bruce was trying to help though, so when Bruce had made more of a mess of Batty face, he couldn't help but settle into an even better mood while watching Bruce's attempts. )
Are you trying to tell me you've never had a nosebleed?
Broken? Oh no. Maybe it would heal faster if you kissed it better.
( Batty laughed at his own suggestion. Unfortunately for Bruce, he wasn't much of a help while drunk off his gin.>
(Bruce wasnโ€™t totally sure that Batty needed to be tended to that closely, but then again, he wasnโ€™t a doctor and couldnโ€™t know just by looking at someone. Bruce pinched his eyebrows together in thought for just a short moment, but soon stood just to settle himself down on his knees directlyโ€”
( Thankfully, Batty was way too durable to seriously hurt himself from a fall like that, thus he'd automatically laughed at the little accident. The color of blood on his skin was an ever-returning cosmetic too. )
Not sure. Why don't you come closer and check it for me?>
Remember, pal. I'll be good to you as long as you're good to me. Otherwise, you don't want to make me your enemy.
( He tried to look into the bag Bruce had been filling. )
Are you done?
You'll get a complete check-up in exchange for a small favor.
( Batty smiled the way like a kid would that knew he was in trouble but wanted to seem innocent in front of his parents. )>
Sorry, can I call you Rob?
( Judging by the other man's smile that Batty reflected, he didn't seem to mind it. It never hurt to ask, though. )
(Bruce couldnโ€™t help but grin. This felt normal. He liked it.)

I uhโ€ฆ yeah, I like you too. Thatโ€™s what I meant.
I like you too, Rob.
( A big ol' smile just for his buddy. )
