Inside BritBox’s TV library: The good, the great, the missing
Inside BritBox’s TV library: The good, the great, the missing
BritBox has the biggest British TV catalog around but there are still a few gaps worth fixing. I’ve spent a lot of nights watching British TV, probably more than I should admit. My parents are obsessed with “Vera ,” and my wife and I have our own comfort show rotation that usually includes “Luther .” So yeah, I’ve got some skin in the game when it comes to judging what BritBox does best. So I wanted to step back and see where BritBox’s TV library really stands in 2025. What genres does it crush? Where could it push a little harder? Is it still keeping things fresh with all the new releases, or does the back catalog do most of the heavy lifting? I already ranked my picks for the top 10 all-time best shows on BritBox , but this time, let’s dig into what the platform itself gets right, and where it could still level up. Feel free to share your thoughts about BritBox ’s offerings in the comments below. Everything you need to know about the BritBox TV show streaming library: What does it do well? What could it do more of? How often does new content drop? How deep is its library? TLDR summary 7-Day Free Trial $8.99+ / month Britbox via Prime Video What TV genres does BritBox do really well? When people ask what BritBox does best, the answer’s easy. It’s all about British TV in every flavor. I’ve watched enough murder mysteries with my parents to know BritBox totally owns that lane. And there are a few more genres that rise to the top. And now that I’ve got it at home, it’s basically the go-to for when my wife and I want something smart, dramatic, or just really well written. First off, the crime dramas and mysteries are next level. You’ve got “Line of Duty ” leading the pack, which is probably the most addictive cop show ever made. Then there’s “Luther ,” “Happy Valley ,” and “The Fall ,” which all take the genre to darker, more psychological places. “Vera ” keeps things classic, while newer BritBox Originals like “Karen Pirie ,” “The Tower ,” and “The Bay ” show how the platform’s keeping things fresh with younger detectives, modern settings, and stories that actually feel ripped from the headlines. Basically, if you love crime shows that care as much about the people as the puzzles, BritBox is unbeatable. It’s also stacked with British comedies, both old and new. If you like awkward humor that makes you squirm a little, “The Office UK ” and “Extras ” are still the gold standard. But BritBox goes way beyond that. There’s “Father Ted ,” “Absolutely Fabulous ,” “Are You Being Served? ,” and “Keeping Up Appearances ” for the old-school crowd, then newer hits like “Stath Lets Flats ,” “Mrs. Brown’s Boys ,” “Toast of London ,” and “Man Down .” The cool part is how wide the range is. You can go from dry, deadpan jokes to completely absurd sketch comedy without leaving the app. And then there are the period dramas, which are the definition of comfort TV. “Downton Abbey ” is the obvious big one, but it’s just the start. BritBox is packed with those big, sweeping stories that mix family drama, romance, and class tension with ridiculous costumes. You’ll find shows like “Pride and Prejudice ,” “Cranford ,” and “North & South ” sitting next to newer miniseries that scratch that same itch. It’s the kind of lineup you put on when you want something relaxing but still really well made. Even outside those big three genres, BritBox quietly fills in the gaps. There are classic soap operas like “EastEnders ” and “Coronation Street ” that drop new episodes just hours after they air in the UK, and a bunch of lifestyle shows like “Escape to the Country ” if you’re in the mood for something lighter. It’s honestly the best version of British TV all in one place. Whether you want murder, manners, or just a good laugh, BritBox has you covered. What TV genres could BritBox do more of? I’ll be real, I love BritBox , but if there’s one lane they’ve left wide open, it’s sci-fi and fantasy. The fact that the “Doctor Who ” reboot used to live here and doesn’t anymore is a major bummer (though you can still stream the original on the platform). That show alone leaves a pretty big hole in the catalog. Even classics like “Blake’s 7 ” aren’t currently available, which just makes the sci-fi gap feel even bigger. I’m not saying BritBox needs to go full Marvel or anything, but even a few more genre shows with big imagination and solid storytelling would go a long way. A big, adventure-driven series with a British cast and style would fit perfectly here. The other thing I’d love to see more of is what I call modern prestige thrillers. Stuff that’s cinematic, emotional, and sharp. BritBox has some great gritty crime dramas like “Luther ” and “Happy Valley ,” but there’s definitely room for more high-stakes, bingeable stories that hook you right away. Think “Peaky Blinders ,” “Bodyguard ,” or “The Night Manager .” Basically, the kind of shows that feel big and stylish but are still grounded in great characters. Those kinds of series are the bridge between the traditional BritBox tone and what’s dominating streaming right now. At the end of the day, I’ll always come back for the mysteries, but every now and then I want to hit play on something that surprises me. Something that feels bold, ambitious, and totally unexpected from BritBox. How often does new content drop on BritBox? BritBox is pretty steady when it comes to new content. Most weeks, something fresh hits the service, whether that’s new episodes of ongoing British shows or an entirely new series making its U.S. debut. A big part of what keeps it feeling alive is how quickly it brings over episodes after they air in the UK. Shows like “Vera ,” “Father Brown ,” and “Death in Paradise ” all drop new installments within about a day of their UK broadcast, which makes it easy to stay caught up with what everyone over there is watching. That “next-day” access applies to soaps, too. “EastEnders ” and “Coronation Street ” are constantly updating, so there’s always something new to stream. If you open BritBox in any given week, there’s a good chance something has been added, even if it’s not one of the big new originals. Then there’s the monthly lineup, which has gotten a lot stronger in the last year or two. The 2025 slate alone is packed: “Vera ” Season 14, “Father Brown ” Season 12, “Karen Pirie ” Season 2, and “Blue Lights ” Season 3 all drop this year, alongside new originals like “A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story ,” “Douglas is Cancelled ,” and “Sister Boniface Mysteries ” Season 4. The mix of fresh titles and returning favorites keeps things interesting, but it’s not the kind of platform that overwhelms you with daily drops. Sometimes the schedule hits a lull between premieres, which can make it feel a bit quiet compared to bigger streamers. Still, BritBox has found a rhythm. It’s enough new shows to keep subscribers hooked, without ever feeling like you’re drowning in stuff to watch. How deep is BritBox’s TV show library? BritBox ’s library runs deep, especially if you’re into British TV history. With over 500 shows available to stream in the U.S., it really is the biggest single collection of British television you can open on one app. What I love is the range. You can jump from newer crime hits like “Line of Duty ” or “Blue Lights ” straight into decades of classics without missing a beat. The back catalog is stacked with the good stuff. We’re talking full runs of favorites like “Only Fools and Horses ” and “Inspector Morse ” plus big evergreen titles like “Agatha Christie’s Poirot ,” “Agatha Christie’s Marple ,” and “The ABC Murders .” If you want period comfort, it is all there too, from “Pride and Prejudice ” to “Downton Abbey .” It is the kind of lineup where you tell yourself you will watch one episode, then suddenly it is three hours later. Depth also means long hauls, and BritBox does that better than anyone. You can live inside the soaps for weeks with “EastEnders ” and “Coronation Street ,” or camp out with full mystery marathons of “Vera ” and “The Doctor Blake Mysteries .” The service even surfaces older gems and modern staples you might have missed, like “Killing Eve ” and the UK version of “Shameless ,” so there is always a rabbit hole to fall into. I also like how some rows are organized by decades, which makes it easy to browse a whole era and discover shows you have only heard about. To keep the library healthy, BritBox did a cleanup in 2025 and trimmed roughly 200 very old or barely watched titles. You might notice a few deep cuts missing, but the core is intact. The big fan favorites, the long runners, and the classic series people actually watch are still here, and the curation honestly makes it easier to find something good fast. Between the legacy catalog and steady new additions, BritBox feels both massive and manageable, which is a sweet spot for anyone who actually wants to watch instead of scroll. Too long didn’t read summary BritBox is best if you love sharp, character-driven British TV. It leans into crime dramas, comedies, and classic period pieces instead of big-budget blockbusters. You won’t find a ton of sci-fi or dark, prestige thrillers here, but if you’re after smart mysteries, witty humor, and timeless British storytelling, BritBox nails it. Plans start at $11 per month ad-free, making it a solid pick for anyone who’s even mildly interested in the best TV Britain has to offer. 7-Day Trial Britbox via Prime Video BritBox BritBox is a hub for hundreds of TV shows and films produced in the UK. How to watch Milwaukee Brewers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers 2025 NLCS Game 2
The Dodgers took Game 1, so the Brewers will need to take Tuesday night’s game to avoid heading to L.A. down two. After a Freddie Freeman home run in the sixth inning, the Los Angeles Dodgers added an insurance run in the top of the ninth via a bases-loaded walk, to take Game 1 of the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers . The two teams will turn around and play again on Tuesday, Oct. 14, in what has quickly become a pivotal game for the Brew Crew. The Dodgers have already wrestled away home-field advantage, so if Milwaukee wants to avoid heading to Chavez Ravine down 2-0, they will need the win in Game 2. First pitch is scheduled for 8:08 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on TBS , with truTV carrying a simulcast. If you are looking for a live TV streaming service to watch this game or the entire NLCS, we recommend a short-term subscription to Sling TV . You can also stream it on the top two tiers of HBO Max . At just $46 per month, you can sign up for either the Sling Orange or Blue base plans, depending on which channel lineup makes the most sense for your viewing needs. In this case, Sling Orange would be your best bet to watch the Dodgers vs. Brewers game, since it is airing on TBS. Of course, you could always get Sling Orange and Sling Blue for just $61 monthly and have access to all of the streamer’s base package channels. However, what makes Sling perfect for fans of teams playing in the Wild Card round is that you don’t need a full month of Sling service to watch via Sling’s new short-term passes. Sling’s day pass will allow you to sign up for its Orange plan for one day for just $5 or a week pass for $15. That means you can pay just $5 to watch today’s Dodgers vs. Brewers game with Sling TV, which is far less than you’ll be asked to pay at other streaming services. That lower price and heightened flexibility are why we recommend Sling TV most highly for watching the entire 2025 MLB Wild Card round . Get 50% OFF sling.com Sling TV Sling TV is The Streamable’s choice for cord cutters on a budget. Sling is a live TV streaming service with multiple channel packages. If you are just looking for a streaming service to watch this specific game and nothing else, there are options available for you. DIRECTV , Hulu + Live TV , Fubo , and YouTube TV all offer free trials, but they vary in length, so be wary. DIRECTV’s industry-leading trial runs for five days, while Hulu + Live TV’s is a solid three days. Those are pretty straightforward, but when it comes to the sports-minded streamer Fubo, things can get a little complicated. As The Streamable’s expert David Satin discovered when signing up for the services, figuring out how long Fubo’s trial is — even as you are signing up — can be a bit difficult . Nonetheless, it will be at least one day, with the potential to be as many as seven, depending on a wide range of factors that Fubo does not share publicly. The YouTube TV trial is said to be “up to two weeks,” but can be as short as two days. So it is difficult to ascertain what you are actually getting before you go through the signup process. If you are looking to watch the game for free, I would recommend DIRECTV , because that streamer has the longest guaranteed free trial and gives you the best channel options. What are all of the streamers you can use to watch the Dodgers vs. Brewers? Fortunately for baseball fans, there are six different streaming services that will stream the game, so you have options to choose from if you don’t already subscribe to any of them. We discussed Sling and the free trial options above, but there is one more, and it offers a different type of streaming arrangement. Ahead of the football season, the worldwide leader in sports launched a first-of-its-kind streaming service. The new standalone ESPN direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming service is the home to everything available on ESPN’s linear channels — including the Dodgers vs. Brewers game — as well as everything that was previously found on ESPN+ . The 7 best space horror movies to stream for a good scare
The 7 best space horror movies to stream for a good scare
The scariest thing about space isn’t the silence. It’s what’s hiding in it… I just rewatched “Alien: Romulus ” because it’s spooky season, and I’d forgotten how good this movie is. It reminded me why I love space horror in the first place. There’s something about the vast emptiness of space, the silence, the sense that one wrong move outside your ship means instant death, and then adding a monster into the mix just pushes it over the edge. It’s that perfect blend of wonder and terror. After watching Rain and her friends get stalked through the dark corridors on Romulus, I started thinking about other movies that nail that same mix. So, if you’re in the mood for a good space scare, these are the seven I’d line up next. Top 7 space horror movies on streaming right now No. 7: ‘Gravity’ No. 6: ‘Event Horizon’ No. 5: ‘Life’ No. 4: ‘Sunshine’ No. 3: ‘Aliens’ No. 2: ‘Alien’ No. 1: ‘Alien: Romulus’ No. 7: ‘Gravity’ (2013) | Rent with Prime Video “Gravity ” isn’t technically a horror movie, but it sure feels like one when you’re watching it. Sandra Bullock plays Ryan Stone, a medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, and George Clooney is the seasoned astronaut guiding her through space. When debris tears their shuttle apart, the two are left floating with no communication and almost no hope. The quiet, the isolation, the panic, it’s terrifying. Director Alfonso Cuarón keeps things rooted in realism, but the tension feels straight out of a thriller. Every spin, every breath, every moment of silence is pure anxiety. It’s stunning, claustrophobic, and honestly one of the most immersive space movies ever made. Watching it in theaters was one of the most intense movie-watching experiences I’ve ever had. I love this movie. Gravity October 3, 2013 Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer, is on her first Shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The Shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone-tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness of space. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space. Loading… No. 6: ‘Event Horizon’ (1997) | Peacock If you’ve seen “Event Horizon ,” you know this movie doesn’t mess around. It starts like a sci-fi rescue mission and then turns into a nightmare. A crew is sent to Neptune to find a ship that disappeared years ago, only to realize it’s brought something evil back with it. The gravity drive on the ship literally opened a portal to another dimension, and what comes through isn’t good. There’s gore, hallucinations, and a creeping sense that the ship itself is alive. It’s wild, it’s bloody, and it’s still one of the weirdest, most effective sci-fi horror hybrids ever made. Think “Hellraiser ” in space, and you’re pretty close. Event Horizon August 15, 1997 In 2047, a group of astronauts are sent to investigate and salvage the starship Event Horizon which disappeared mysteriously seven years before on its maiden voyage. However, it soon becomes evident that something sinister resides in its corridors. Loading… No. 5: ‘Life’ (2017) | Rent with Prime Video “Life ” kind of got lost when it came out in theaters, which is a shame because it’s tense as hell. Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, Rebecca Ferguson, and Hiroyuki Sanada play astronauts studying a sample from Mars, and they accidentally wake up something that’s not so friendly. The creature, Calvin, starts off as a single cell and quickly turns into a shape-shifting, intelligent predator. The International Space Station setting makes it feel close and believable, like this could actually happen tomorrow. The thing about “Life” is that it’s simple and meaningful in the best way. No wasted moments, just pure, suffocating tension. It’s not “Alien , but it’s a worthy cousin. Life March 22, 2017 The six-member crew of the International Space Station is tasked with studying a sample from Mars that may be the first proof of extra-terrestrial life, which proves more intelligent than ever expected. Loading… No. 4: ‘Sunshine’ (2007) | Rent with Prime Video “Sunshine ” is one of those movies that’s as beautiful as it is unsettling. Set in 2057, the sun is dying, and a group of astronauts is sent to reignite it with a massive nuclear payload. Things start to unravel when they come across a lost ship and decide to investigate. What follows is part science fiction, part psychological breakdown. The visuals are breathtaking, the sun looks both holy and terrifying, and the performances are great across the board. It takes a turn into horror halfway through, but even then, it stays focused on big, existential questions about sacrifice, faith, and what it means to face something so much larger than yourself. Sunshine April 5, 2007 Fifty years into the future, the sun is dying, and Earth is threatened by arctic temperatures. A team of astronauts is sent to revive the Sun — but the mission fails. Seven years later, a new team is sent to finish the mission as mankind’s last hope. Loading… No. 3: ‘Aliens’ (1986) | Hulu “Aliens ” is straight-up legendary. If Ridley Scott’s original was all slow dread, James Cameron turned it into an action horror masterpiece. Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley wakes up 57 years after the first movie and ends up back on LV-426 with a team of marines who are way too confident for their own good. It’s got one of the greatest movie lines ever (“Get away from her, you b****!”) and somehow manages to be both heart-pounding and emotional. Ripley’s bond with Newt gives the movie its heart, and the alien queen gives it its teeth. Every time I rewatch it, I’m reminded how perfectly Cameron balanced chaos with character. If you’ve never seen it, I’m jealous cause you’re in for a (trick or) treat. Aliens July 18, 1986 When Ripley’s life pod is found by a salvage crew over 50 years later, she finds that terraformers are on the very planet where they found the alien species. The company has also sent a family of colonists out to investigate her story… and have since lost all contact. Directed by James Cameron, Aliens takes a small sidestep from the horror genre and goes for a more sci-fi action approach as Ripley and the colonial marines return to the feared planet and search for answers. This endlessly quotable flick is enjoyable every time you see it. According to legend, Cameron landed the directing job by writing “Alien” on a dry erase board. Then adding an “s” so it said “Aliens.” And then he drew two lines through the “s” - “Alien$.” Loading… No. 2: ‘Alien’ (1979) | Hulu “Alien ” is the GOAT for a reason. Ridley Scott basically invented the modern space horror playbook with this one. The crew of the Nostromo stumbles across a strange signal, finds an alien egg, and things go downhill fast. The chestburster scene still hits like the first time you saw it, shocking, gross, and unforgettable. The ship feels lived in, the characters feel real, and creature design by H. R. Giger is pure nightmare fuel. Every shadow feels dangerous, every hallway claustrophobic. Even after decades, no other movie has matched the sheer dread and precision of this one. “Alien” isn’t just scary… it’s cinematic perfection. Alien May 25, 1979 The commercial spaceship Nostromo is heading back to Earth when they’re tasked with intercepting a distress signal from a distant planet. The crew discovers a chamber full of seemingly benign eggs. When one hatches unexpectedly, the crew is unaware of the impending nightmare set to descend upon them. Directed by Ridley Scott, this film is the first in the series to feature its most-known protagonist, Ripley (Sigourney Weaver). Loading… No. 1: ‘Alien: Romulus’ (2024) | Hulu Sure, there’s some recency bias here since I just watched “Alien: Romulus ,” but I can’t deny how much fun it is. Fede Álvarez pulls off something rare: a sequel that feels fresh but still fits perfectly in the “Alien ” timeline. It takes place between “Alien” and “Aliens” and follows Rain Carradine, her android brother Andy, and their friends as they stumble onto a creepy abandoned lab. Of course, things go horribly wrong once the facehuggers show up. What makes this movie great is how it keeps escalating. Just when you think it’s over, it hits you with a new kind of horror that’s even worse. The practical effects are incredible, the tension never lets up, and it feels raw and old school in all the right ways. It’s genuinely terrifying, beautifully shot, and easily the best thing to happen to the franchise in years. An awesome movie, plain and simple. Alien: Romulus August 13, 2024 While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. WWE data shows regular sports can succeed on Netflix
WWE data shows regular sports can succeed on Netflix
New data from Ampere Analysis shows that viewers are churning more after one-off sporting events than they are after regular ‘WWE Raw’ broadcasts. There’s been a lot of talk about Netflix and its thoughts regarding sports in 2025. After many years of not making any attempts to secure sports rights, Netflix has made calculated investments in sporting events in recent months. Its biggest splashes were the acquisition of a package of Christmas Day NFL games, starting in 2024, and the rights to stream “WWE Raw ” each week on a global scale. Netflix has pursued a philosophy of only going after sports that it can transform into major viewing events, but new data from Ampere Analysis regarding churn rates following big-name Netflix events sports demonstrates that it might be time to change its thinking. Key Details: Raw numbers: WWE content has amassed more than 300 million viewing hours in the first half of 2025 on Netflix. Churn rate down: Customers who sign up for one-off sports events have a higher churn rate than “Raw” viewers. Time to think about it: Netflix recently indicated it wasn’t likely to go for a big package of NFL games, but that could change. Sign Up $7.99+ / month netflix.com According to Ampere’s data, WWE content, including “Raw,” special events, and other shows has compiled more than 300 million viewing hours on Netflix in the first half of 2025 alone. Only “Raw” streams on the service in the United States, but in other global territories, WWE streams episodes of “SmackDown ,” premium live events, and more WWE titles are available on Netflix. Ampere’s data shows that “Raw” is building a consistent weekly audience, averaging 6.5 million viewing hours per broadcast. “WrestleMania 2025” brought in 19.8 million viewing hours in April, and it all adds up to the fact that Netflix has built a loyal fanbase of WWE fans around the world. Click to expand. If the 88.6 million hours “WWE Raw” generated in total over the first half of 2025 were treated as an episodic “season,” it would rank third among all TV shows in that period of time. Considering that “Raw” is only available to around 52% of global Netflix customers, that’s an impressive feat. The statistics that might change Netflix’s mind about pursuing more sweeping sports packages show that U.S. customers who signed up for Netflix after the premiere of “WWE Raw” had a lower churn rate than those who signed up to watch one-off sporting events. Only 18.2% of viewers who signed up to stream “WWE Raw” churned in the weeks after its premiere in January, whereas customers who signed up for the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight churned at a rate of 25.6%, and those who subscribed to watch last year’s NFL games on Christmas churned at a 27.2% clip. Ampere’s data also shows that American WWE viewers with a Netflix subscription grew from 62% in the third quarter of 2024 to 76% in the first quarter of 2025, showing the streamer’s ability to draw — and hold — the attention of sports fans. That could mean some changes are in store for the streamer’s conservative policies surrounding live sports. Those policies are still in effect, as Netflix’s co-CEO Greg Peters said last week that the company is unlikely to pursue a large package of NFL games . This data might give Netflix cause to rethink that philosophy, however, as the data indicates regular live sporting events can create a loyal customer base for the streamer and lower churn. The NFL wants to sit down and talk with programmers as early as next year, but Netflix still has some time to consider whether or not it really wants to sit negotiations out. Ampere’s data shows that a reconsideration of its reticent nature regarding live sports might not be a terrible idea. Warner Bros. Discovery rejects Paramount's first takeover bid
Warner Bros. Discovery rejects Paramount's first takeover bid
WBD says the initial offer from Paramount Skydance wasn’t high enough to seal the deal. Paramount Skydance is going to have to search around for a little extra scratch if it wants to become the owner of Warner Bros. Discovery. That’s according to multiple reports, which indicate that Paramount’s first attempt to make its purchase of WBD official was rebuffed for not being a substantial enough offer. Key Details: Big bills, or small?: Paramount approached WBD with a majority-cash offer in late September. Try again: Reports indicate a new bid is already in the planning stages. Get hostile?: The Ellisons could approach WBD shareholders directly to try to get things moving. Sign Up $7.99+ / month paramountplus.com David Ellison and his fellow Paramount Skydance executives are going back to the drawing board, as their first bid for WBD was deemed too low by the company. The Wall Street Journal reports that Paramount made overtures to WBD in late September with a mostly-cash offer backed by the fortune of the Ellison family. The initial bid is reported to be an offer for around $20 per share, and while it has been rebuffed, talks are still ongoing. Per Bloomberg , Paramount has had discussions with Apollo Global Management about potentially infusing more resources into the bid. Those talks have included Legendary Entertainment, the independent production house majority owned by Apollo. There are other options available to the Ellisons if they really want WBD. They could go directly to shareholders in a hostile takeover attempt, or they could seek other ways to beef up their offer. Whichever way they decide to go, it appears the issue is far from closed. Paramount wants to acquire all of WBD , which earlier this year announced plans to split into two companies — one focused on streaming and the Warner Bros. movie studio, the other on WBD-owned cable channels. Bank of America analyst Jessica Reif-Ehrlich was an early advocate of that move and thinks that moving ahead with that plan would be better for WBD in the long run. “It is our view that as a standalone entity WBD’s streaming and studio assets would generate a bidding war amongst potential buyers, and therefore, we believe a split of the company can garner the greatest potential value,” she wrote in a Sept. 30 note. Now, it falls to WBD CEO David Zaslav to navigate the next few months with care. Zaslav’s desire for a bidding war may lead him to bide his time, but if he gets a compelling enough second offer from Paramount, he might not be able to hold back. The Ellisons would do well to make every attempt to convince Zas that he won’t be foregoing any major windfalls by teaming with them. Will Comcast, Netflix , or another company that previously had reported interest in WBD get back in the race now? It remains to be seen, but Paramount would probably do well to get its second bid to Zaslav soon if it wants to remain the only interested party in the race. Apple follows confusing, annoying trend with streamer name
Apple follows confusing, annoying trend with streamer name
The company has decided to drop the + from its streaming service, calling it just Apple TV. The Apple TV+ streaming service is the latest in the industry to get a name change. Will it also be the next among its peers to change back to its old moniker? That remains to be seen, but in its press release announcing the release of “F1 ,” Apple made it official that it was dropping the “+” from its streamer’s name, and going with simply Apple TV going forward. Key Details: Extreme makeover?: The name change is part of a “vibrant new identity” for Apple TV+. Which is which?: Apple TV is also the name of Apple’s streaming device, as well as its TV and movie-focused app. Why?: Media companies are continuing to name multiple products the same thing, which confuses consumers. 7-Day Free Trial $12.99+ / month apple.com The name change announcement was thrown in almost as an afterthought to the press release stating that “F1” was arriving on the streaming service to watch on demand on Dec. 12, just in time for the holidays. The company says the name swap will give the streamer a “vibrant new identity.” Despite that pledge, there were no further details on whether any other changes were coming to the Apple TV streaming service. Apple recently launched its tvOS 26 update , which included the next evolution of the user interface on the Apple TV app, among other changes. Apple is following a trend that other companies have attempted in recent history: renaming their products after other items they already sell. Apple also sells the Apple TV streaming device — full name Apple TV 4K — and houses all its TV and movie content within the Apple TV app. The company also refers to the device’s home streaming hub as Apple TV as well, adding to the layers of potential confusion. However, if Apple decides to somehow merge all of these products into a more unified and streamlined product, perhaps the new nomenclature will be easier to understand and discuss. If not, will this get so confusing for customers that a reverse name change will be needed? That remains to be seen, although a similar kind of confusion no doubt played a part in the decision to change the name of the Paramount+ ad-free tier back to Paramount+ Premium. Previously, that product had been named Paramount+ with SHOWTIME , which is also confoundingly the name given to the premium cable channel formerly called just “Showtime .” HBO also had to do an about-face on its streamer’s name this year, switching back from Max to HBO Max over the summer . WBD never decided to give the same name to multiple different products as Apple has chosen to do, but its streaming name swap was an ultimate failure just as Paramount+’s was. Will Apple TV have to change its name back to Apple TV+ eventually, or will it be able to keep its shortened moniker? What do you think about the decision to pull the plus from the streamer? Let us know in the comments below. 7-Day Trial apple.com Apple TV+ Apple TV+ is a subscription video streaming service for $12.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Just joined HBO Max and looking for laughs? Start with ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’
Larry David says what everyone else is thinking… and that’s what makes it perfect. Just signed up for HBO Max and wondering where to start for a truly great comedy? Easy. You’ve gotta go with “Curb Your Enthusiasm .” I’ve been watching this show since Season 1, I own the entire series on DVD, and even after all these years, it still makes me laugh harder than anything else on TV. Larry David basically turned being socially inappropriate into an art form, and no one does it better. For me, it’s one of the funniest shows ever made, and if you’re new to HBO Max , there’s no better place to start. Top comedy TV show to stream first when you sign up for HBO Max Why ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’? What’s the show about? What else is there to watch? Sign Up $9.99+ / month max via prime video Why ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ is the must-watch comedy on HBO Max If you’ve ever watched “Seinfeld ” (my favorite show of all time), you already know Larry David’s brand of comedy. “Curb Your Enthusiasm” takes that same “nothing happens but everything’s funny” energy and makes it even more raw and unfiltered. It’s basically “Seinfeld” with no network censors. The whole show is improvised from outlines, which gives it this super-real, unscripted feel. It never feels like you’re watching characters perform jokes, but instead, you’re watching real people get into ridiculous fights about nothing. Larry plays a fictionalized version of himself, a super-rich TV writer who somehow manages to get in trouble in every social situation imaginable. He says the things the rest of us only think, and that’s what makes it so good. He doesn’t care about politeness or social rules. Larry cares about Larry. And somehow, that selfishness becomes one of the funniest things on TV. The pilot episode (“The Pants Tent”) sets the tone perfectly: Larry’s friend thinks he got a boner during a conversation when, really, his pants just bunched up weird. It’s so simple, so awkward, and completely hilarious. Every season of “Curb” is gold, but my two favorites are Season 4 and Season 7. Season 4 revolves around Larry starring in Mel Brooks’ Broadway show “The Producers” alongside Ben Stiller (and later David Schwimmer). Watching Larry try to handle Broadway egos while also managing his personal chaos is just incredible. Then there’s Season 7, which features a full-blown “Seinfeld” reunion. It’s one of the smartest and funniest meta storylines ever done on TV. It’s like watching Larry rewrite his own history, and it totally works. What I’ve always loved about this show is how it zeroes in on the smallest details of everyday life (things like cutting lines, tipping rules, party etiquette) and turns them into comedy gold. No one else can make a 30-minute fight about a thank-you card feel like a masterpiece. Larry’s not trying to be likable, and that’s the point. He’s the ultimate “what if I just said exactly what I was thinking” guy, and it’s both cringe-inducing and deeply satisfying. “Curb” also helped define HBO’s entire comedy identity. Before shows like “Veep ” or “Barry ,” there was Larry David setting the tone with his brutally honest, uncomfortable humor. The series ran for 12 seasons, ending earlier this year with a finale that cleverly tied everything back to the show’s roots. And somehow, even after more than two decades, it never lost its edge. Curb Your Enthusiasm October 15, 2000 The off-kilter, unscripted comic vision of Larry David, who plays himself in a parallel universe in which he can’t seem to do anything right, and, by his standards, neither can anyone else. Live 4 HBO directv.com 5-Day Trial DIRECTV Entertainment + HBO $99.99 / month hulu.com Free 3-Day Trial Hulu Live TV $97.99 / month Show More dish.com Save $370 Dish $91.99 / month tv.youtube.com Sign Up YouTube TV $99.99 / month Loading… What is ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ about? “Curb Your Enthusiasm” follows Larry David as a heightened version of himself living in Los Angeles. He’s retired, he’s rich, and he’s constantly surrounded by people who drive him insane. His wife Cheryl (Cheryl Hines) tries to keep him grounded, his manager Jeff (Jeff Garlin) enables him, and his best friend Susie (Susie Essman) yells at him constantly. Every episode starts with a simple misunderstanding or small annoyance (like having to pay for dinner with your friends or not wanting to give out candy on Halloween), and by the end, it’s blown up into total chaos. What makes “Curb” so brilliant is that it’s all built on improvisation. Larry gives the actors rough outlines of each scene, and they just run with it. That’s why it feels so natural. People interrupt each other, talk over one another, and it feels like you’re eavesdropping on real people instead of watching scripted TV. That approach comes straight from Larry’s creative process… the same guy who once tried to quit “Seinfeld” multiple times because the pressure was too much, and whose sketches kept getting rejected at “SNL ” before he was a household name. At its core, the show is about one man’s constant war with social conventions. Larry doesn’t mean to be rude (most of the time), he just doesn’t see the point in pretending. Whether he’s arguing about a restaurant tip, refusing to say “God bless you,” or accidentally insulting a Holocaust survivor, it’s always equal parts horrifying and hilarious. And somehow, no matter how uncomfortable it gets, you always end up siding with him a little. Other must-stream comedy shows on HBO Max If you love “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” HBO Max has plenty of other top-tier comedies worth checking out. Start with “Veep ,” a political satire where Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Elaine from “Seinfeld”) plays an ambitious vice president who’s just as shameless and self-absorbed as Larry. Then queue up “Barry ,” a dark comedy about a hitman who decides he wants to be an actor… yeah, it’s sharp, weird, and totally original. And if you’re looking for something newer, “Hacks ” is a must-watch. It follows a veteran stand-up comedian (Jean Smart) mentoring a young writer, blending some sharp humor with genuine emotion. But no matter what else you watch, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is the one that defines HBO comedy. It’s fearless, brutally honest, and absolutely hilarious. If you’re just signing up for HBO Max , this is the first thing you should hit play on. Through the first five weeks of the NFL season, the Washington Commanders (3-2) have alternated wins and losses, including a 27-10 victory over the Chargers last week. After starting the campaign with a pair of losses, the Chicago Bears have rattled off back-to-back wins, and will be looking to get above .500 for the first time this season. The two teams will play in the second of two “Monday Night Football” games in Week 6. So, their game will kick off at 8:15 p.m. ET and will air on ABC . The platform offers the most of The Streamable’s top 35 cable channels, so if you are looking for a breadth of programming options, DIRECTV is a surefire hit. In addition, the streamer has the industry’s best guaranteed free trial. While others can roll out longer options depending on what time of year it is and what qualifications you meet as a customer, DIRECTV offers a five-day trial to all new users. So, if you are specifically looking to watch the Commanders vs. Bears game, this is the option that makes the most sense. Related: How to make the most out of your NFL experience with DIRECTV But in the 2025-26 season of NFL and college football , for the first time, DIRECTV is able to offer an even more compelling package of channels for football fans. Earlier this year, DIRECTV launched its Genre Packs that allow people to pick curated channel lineups around central themes and genres, and for sports fans, that means the MySports Pack. The MySports plan runs $70 a month after the aforementioned five-day free trial, which gives you a way to check out everything that it has to offer before having to pay a penny. You’ll also get a bunch of great sports channels with MySports, including ACC Network , Big Ten Network , ESPN , ESPN2 , ESPNEWS , ESPNU , FS1 , Fox Sports 2 , Golf Channel , MLB Network , NBA TV , NFL Network , NHL Network , SEC Network , TBS , TNT , and USA Network , and depending on your market, ABC , CBS , Fox , and NBC . All these channels and features are available for just $70, which is why it’s our favorite way to watch. Can you watch Commanders vs. Bears for free? What are all of the streamers you can use to watch the Commanders vs. Bears game? Fortunately for football fans, there are six different streaming services that will stream the game, so you have options to choose from if you don’t already subscribe to any of them. We discussed DIRECTV and the free trial options above, but there is one more, and it offers a different type of streaming arrangement. Everything to know about 'The 'Burbs' TV show remake
Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall lead Peacock’s darkly funny new take on the suburban cult classic. If you’ve seen Joe Dante’s 1989 dark comedy “The 'Burbs ” or just heard that Keke Palmer’s leading a new version for Peacock , you probably got a little curious. The original starred Tom Hanks as a regular guy who starts suspecting his neighbors are murderers. It’s weird, funny, and way ahead of its time. Now, Peacock’s giving it a modern twist with a cast that’s loaded and a creative team that’s stacked. From the new story setup to all the big names behind it, here’s everything you need to know about “The ‘Burbs.” Everything you need to know about ‘The ‘Burbs’: When will ‘The ‘Burbs’ episodes air? Can you watch ‘The ‘Burbs’ for free? What is ‘The ‘Burbs’ about? Who’s in ‘The ‘Burbs’? Who created ‘The ‘Burbs’? Is ‘The ‘Burbs’ based on the movie? Sign Up $7.99+ / month peacocktv.com When will episodes of ‘The ‘Burbs’ come on Peacock? There’s no release date yet for “The ‘Burbs,” but filming is underway on the Universal Studios backlot, the same spot where the original movie was shot. Since production kicked off earlier this year, you can expect it to hit Peacock sometime in 2026. The show will likely follow Peacock’s usual weekly drop schedule, so expect a few cliffhangers to keep you coming back. Can you watch episodes of ‘The ‘Burbs’ for free? You can’t stream the whole thing for free, but you can get started without paying much. Peacock ’s Select plan costs $8 per month and has ads, while the Premium plan runs $11 per month without them. Both plans will let you watch “The ‘Burbs” the second it premieres. There’s no standard free trial right now, but promos do pop up every once in a while, so keep an eye out when the release date gets closer. Premium Plus subscribers can stream their local NBC feed in all 210 markets. … Peacock includes news, entertainment, sports, late-night, and reality from various NBCU properties, including NBC , Bravo , and E! . Peacock also includes the entire library of Bravo shows and has exclusives like “Below Deck: Down Under.” They also include live and on-demand access to Hallmark channels. The company has acquired the rights to many classic shows like “Parks and Recreation,” and the entire Dick Wolf library, including “Law & Order” and “Chicago Fire.” The service also features blockbusters and critically acclaimed films from Universal Pictures, Focus Features, DreamWorks Animation, Illumination, and content acquired from Hollywood’s biggest studios. Sign Up $7.99+ / month peacocktv.com What is ‘The ‘Burbs’ about? “The ‘Burbs” reimagines Joe Dante’s 1989 cult classic for today. Instead of one paranoid guy on a suburban block, the new version follows a young couple who move into the husband’s childhood home only to find that their new neighbors are hiding way more than lawn-care secrets. The official logline teases that “what starts as a typical suburban life quickly unravels as new neighbors arrive with explosive secrets.” It’s got that same mix of mystery, dark humor, and small-town weirdness that made the original a hit. The show’s written by Celeste Hughey, who worked on “Palm Royale ” and “Dead to Me ,” and directed by Nzingha Stewart, who also helmed episodes of “Daisy Jones & The Six .” The show’s also filming on the Universal Studios backlot, just like the original, which feels like a fun nod to the movie’s legacy. Who stars in ‘The ‘Burbs’? The cast of Peacock’s “The ‘Burbs” is seriously stacked. Keke Palmer stars as one half of the central couple, bringing her usual charm and comedy chops to the role. Jack Whitehall plays her husband, who convinces her to move into his old neighborhood, which turns out to be a huge mistake. They’re joined by comedy legends Paula Pell (“Girls5eva ”), Julia Duffy (“Newhart ”), and Mark Proksch (“What We Do in the Shadows ”), plus Kapil Talwalkar from “Night Court .” Palmer also executive produces the series, which makes sense considering how much range she’s shown jumping between projects like “Nope ,” and “One of Them Days ” which is awesome. Who’s behind ‘The ‘Burbs’? “The ‘Burbs” was developed for Peacock by Celeste Hughey, who’s writing the series. She’s also executive producing alongside Seth MacFarlane and Brian Grazer. Rachel Shukert from “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ” is also on board as an executive producer with Keke Palmer. Dana Olsen, who wrote the original 1989 movie, is returning as a co-executive producer, which keeps the spirit of the original alive. Between that lineup and MacFarlane’s knack for dark humor, this reboot’s in good hands. Is ‘The ‘Burbs’ based on the original movie? Yep, it’s directly inspired by Joe Dante’s 1989 cult classic “The 'Burbs .” The new version updates the story for modern suburbia but keeps that same mix of paranoia and comedy that made the movie special. The original was about a guy (Tom Hanks) who thinks his creepy new neighbors are killers. This one widens the scope, focusing on a young couple who start to wonder if their whole neighborhood might be hiding something dark. It’s not a straight remake, but it’s definitely a reimagining that honors the original’s weird, suspenseful energy while adding new characters, new twists, and plenty of surprises. Brighten up your streaming with these lighting accessories
Brighten up your streaming with these lighting accessories
From bias lights to wall art, these are the best ways to light up your streaming setup. Once you’ve nailed down your almost perfect home setup with your streaming device, TV, and maybe even a sweet surround sound system, you might think there isn’t much else to enhance the experience … but think again. In addition to basics, you might want to consider some additional lighting for your streaming space as well. Not only can great lighting accessories help create the mood for your movie night, but some can even come along for the ride, dynamically changing with whatever you’re watching, really pushing things to the next level. I’m a big fan of lighting for my streaming setup, but I’ve got quite the nerdy house , so it’s easy to make lighting magic. If you’re not looking to spend a ton but want that extra something to up your game, I’ve got a few great solutions for you. From simple LED backlights to room-enhancing lamps, let’s take a look at some of the best lighting accessories for your home streaming setup. Best lighting accessories for streaming Bias lights Smart bulbs Lepro Table Lamp Lepro N1 Smart Rope Lights Govee TV Backlight 3 Pro Govee Floor Lamp Nanoleaf Shapes Wall Light Bias lights Bias lights — really just LED strips — are one of the easiest ways to enhance your setup. Available in a variety of lengths, these strips attach to the back of your TV and project a subtle light onto the wall, easing your eyes and adding a bit of pizzazz to your setup. You can change the color of the lights directly on the strip or with the included remote, or set them to cycle colors or various other effects, depending on the model. Most plug into the USB port on the back of your TV, so there’s no major wiring required. They’ll also turn on and off with your TV, making it appear as though you really know what you’re doing. Hands-down one of my favorite, budget-friendly accessories for any streaming setup. LED Bias Lights $15+ at Amazon See at Amazon Smart bulbs Smart bulbs are one of the easiest ways to enhance your setup. There are a variety of color-changing bulbs in all shapes and sizes that you can use in light fixtures and lamps you probably already own. These range from inexpensive and simple RGB bulbs to comprehensive setups like Philips Hue, all offering various bulbs and options for your streaming setup. You can manually control the lighting brightness and color, or set them on timers to adjust as the day progresses, whatever works best for your particular situation. Smart Bulbs $10+ at Amazon See at Amazon Lepro Table Lamp This sweet color-changing table lamp is one of my favorite corner-of-the-room accessories. In addition to its movable circles, there are a slew of color options and dynamic settings that really make this lamp feel ike part of the family. Most of the time, I leave it on a simple rainbow gradient setting, and it just minds its own business. However, I often switch to the music setting when I’m watching TV, and it will pick up the audio and adjust according to the volume of the action. There are also AI settings available if you want to get specific about what you need from it, and I’ve already lost countless hours of couch time just playing around with colors and creating new patterns. I love this lamp, and it will have a spot in my setup for quite some time. Lepro Smart Table Lamp $64 at Amazon See at Amazon Lepro N1 Smart Rope Lights Lepro offers a range of other lighting accessories, including the smart rope light. Unlike traditional, cheaper LEDs, this rope light looks much more fluid, and it is totally customizable. You can put it nearly anywhere — behind your TV, under the couch, or even on the wall in whatever shape you want. It’s available in a few sizes depending on your needs, and with the app, it can easily serve as your new favorite lighting accessory. Easily customize each portion of the rope for holidays, your favorite sports team, or just extra lighting when you need it. It’s extremely versatile and can be used in numerous ways, making it a worthwhile investment. Lepro N1 Smart Rope Lights $50 at Amazon See at Amazon Govee TV Backlight 3 Pro Think of the Govee TV Backlight 3 Pro as bias lights on steroids … and then some. While these lights perform the same function by casting light from the back of your TV, there’s also one major trick that enhances your viewing experience. Thanks to a camera that sits quietly atop your TV, the lights can see what’s on the screen and will actually adjust the color across the strip depending on what they see. Action movies go full-blast, with explosions carrying over beyond the screen or bright animations really shining through. This is one of the most next-level accessories you can get, and it’s 100% a crowd pleaser. You can also set the lights to specific colors for sports, holidays, to match your outfit — whatever you’d like — all with the easy-to-use Govee app. Govee TV Backlight 3 Pro $180 at Amazon See at Amazon Govee Floor Lamp If amiance is more your thing, something you can literally stick in the corner is a great option. The popular Govee Floor Lamp is small enough to fit nearly anywhere, but looks best in the corner of the room. It has a multitude of options for lighting, from simple whites to advanced color gradients, all controllable through the Govee app. Again, you can easily set it up for holidays or sports, or even create your own patterns and light shows. Truly an easy way to beef up your streaming game, and unlike semi-permanent lights you need to stick somewhere, you can easily move it around if you’re feeling it’s not quite right. Govee Floor Lamp Basic $60 at Amazon See at Amazon Nanoleaf Shapes Wall Light If you want to go a bit more artsy, consider something like the Nanoleaf Shape Wall Lights. These dynamic lights can be arranged in a pattern that best suits you and feature over 16 million colors to choose from. Easily set up custom looks that also act as wall art, and connect them to your Alexa, HomeKit, or Google Assistant to control them with your voice. They’re great for ambient lighting in rooms where other lamps may not quite fit, or for just spicing up an otherwise boring space with something fresh. Nanoleaf Shapes LED Wall Lights $128 at Amazon See at Amazon Light it up, up, up Adding a bit of subtle lighting — or a lot of it if that’s your thing — is a surefire way to spruce up your current streaming setup easily. Whether you’re using simple, color-changing smart bulbs or backlights that change with the picture on your TV, you’re sure to love the elevated experiences that lighting accessories bring to your TV and movie-watching. Even just simple, < $20 bias lights really enhance your TV and not only look great, but will leave you wanting to find more ways to improve your streaming, in which case we’re here to help!

Why ‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’ is the best drama show you (probably) haven’t watched yet
Why ‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’ is the best drama show you (probably) haven’t watched yet
This slow-burn, beautifully shot series proves Taylor Sheridan’s universe runs deeper than ‘Yellowstone.’ Paramount+ has no shortage of Westerns and crime sagas, but one that slipped through the cracks deserves a second look. “Lawmen: Bass Reeves ” is easily one of the best dramas the streamer has ever released, yet somehow it never got the same spotlight as “1883 ” or “1923 .” Created by Chad Feehan and produced by Taylor Sheridan and David Oyelowo, it tells the true story of Bass Reeves, the first Black U.S. Deputy Marshal west of the Mississippi. The show’s a slow-burn, gorgeously shot Western, and it’s exactly the kind of prestige drama that got buried under bigger franchise hype. Here’s why I think it’s the most underrated drama on Paramount+. Best under-the-radar drama TV show on Paramount+ Why is ‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’ underrated? What’s the show about? Other great dramas on Paramount+ Sign Up $7.99+ / month paramountplus.com Why ‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’ is the most underrated drama series on Paramount+ I didn’t expect to get as hooked on “Lawmen: Bass Reeves ” as I did. I’m not a huge Western guy, but the more I watched this one, the harder it was to flip to something else. David Oyelowo is magnetic as Bass Reeves, a former enslaved man who becomes one of the first Black U.S. Deputy Marshals in American history. The series blends real history with really solid writing and this quiet emotion, showing what justice and survival actually looked like in the post–Civil War frontier. It’s a thoughtful, grounded Western that doesn’t just glorify the past, but it examines it too. And that’s exactly why I love it. Now, why hasn’t this show gotten the love it deserves? A few reasons. When “Lawmen: Bass Reeves ” dropped, it might have been positioned as a major new original, but its marketing didn’t quite match the scale or quality of the show itself. Paramount+ gave it solid promotion, with trailers that racked up millions of views, banner placements at big corporate events like the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, and even a special CBS airing that drew in 7.5 million viewers across platforms. But because it premiered during the SAG-AFTRA strike, none of the cast could do interviews or press tours. David Oyelowo was literally walking picket lines instead of red carpets when it launched. That kind of timing kills momentum, and you could feel it because the buzz that a show like this needed just wasn’t there. The series also got lost in the shadow of the “Yellowstone ” universe. Technically, “Bass Reeves ” was meant to live alongside Taylor Sheridan’s other Westerns, but it didn’t use the “Yellowstone” branding in its title. Feehan and Oyelowo wanted it to stand on its own, and creatively, that was the right call. But from a marketing standpoint? It meant missing out on a built-in audience that tunes in automatically for anything “Yellowstone”-related. While “1883” and “1923” got big network simulcasts and A-list stars like Sam Elliott and Harrison Ford leading the charge, Bass Reeves was a quieter release. It was a prestige drama that never got the franchise-level treatment. That’s a shame, because the show’s incredible. Oyelowo gives a powerhouse performance, the writing is tight, and the direction is cinematic without ever feeling flashy. It even became Paramount+’s most-watched premiere of 2023, but because the platform’s audience is smaller than Netflix or Hulu , it didn’t quite break through into mainstream conversation. Between the strike, the timing, and the lack of a “Yellowstone” tie-in, this one ended up flying under the radar, even though it’s every bit as good as the big hitters. What is ‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’ about? “Lawmen: Bass Reeves ” follows Bass Reeves (David Oyelowo), a former enslaved man who becomes one of the most legendary lawmen in American history. Set in the aftermath of the Civil War, the story tracks his journey from bondage to badge as he takes on outlaws across the frontier. What makes it special is how human it feels. It’s not just another Western about gunslingers and justice, it’s about a man trying to reconcile the horrors of his past with the moral weight of his new role. The cast is stacked, too. Dennis Quaid brings a rugged charm as fellow marshal Sherrill Lynn, while Lauren E. Banks gives real heart as Reeves’ wife, Jennie. The cinematography is stunning (all golden plains, dusty towns, and candlelit interiors that feel straight out of a movie), and the pacing is deliberate in the best way. Each episode unfolds like a chapter in a great novel. By the finale, it’s clear this isn’t just a story about one man, but the untold foundation of American law enforcement itself. The show is also the first entry in a planned anthology. Future “Lawmen” seasons are expected to spotlight other historical figures, but this first one sets the tone perfectly: historical, authentic, and unafraid to take its time. It’s thoughtful instead of loud, and that’s probably why it didn’t get as much mainstream attention. But that same restraint is what makes it great. It’s the kind of show that proves Paramount+ can do prestige drama just as well as anyone, and I’ll be recommending this drama to anyone who will listen. Other underappreciated drama TV shows on Paramount+ If you finish “Lawmen: Bass Reeves ” and want more grounded, high-stakes dramas on Paramount+ , start with “Evil .” It’s one of the weirdest, smartest shows on the platform. It’s part procedural, part psychological horror, and full of moments that make you question what’s real. Katja Herbers and Mike Colter make a great duo, and the show constantly plays with faith, skepticism, and morality in ways that feel totally fresh. It’s dark, funny, and surprisingly emotional. Next up is “Special Ops: Lioness ,” another standout from Taylor Sheridan that doesn’t get enough credit. Zoe Saldaña leads an all-female undercover program in the CIA, and it’s tense, fast-paced, and full of the moral gray areas Sheridan does so well. It’s more modern and adrenaline-driven than “Bass Reeves,” but both shows share that same focus on loyalty, sacrifice, and what it costs to serve a bigger cause. And for something totally different, check out “Rabbit Hole .” Kiefer Sutherland stars as a corporate spy caught in a massive conspiracy, and it’s a wild, twist-heavy ride from start to finish. Think paranoia thriller meets modern tech dystopia. It’s stylish, unpredictable, and one of those shows that keeps you guessing until the last episode. Lawmen: Bass Reeves November 5, 2023 The story of Bass Reeves, the legendary lawman of the wild West, is brought to life. Reeves worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded—and is believed to be the inspiration for The Lone Ranger.

Young viewers are loving interactive TV features
Whether it be shopping extensions or social interaction while watching TV, young viewers are using interactive TV features at a high rate. It’s not enough for a streaming service to make a good piece of content. It also has to find ways to bring viewers to that content, and the challenges in doing so are not so easily solved, especially with all the competition for a viewer’s attention. A new report from Horowitz Research highlights one solution to keeping viewers engaged, especially younger audiences: interactive features, which young customers are using while watching TV at a high rate. Key Details: Social butterfly: Almost half of viewers engage with social media during or after a show. Shop and watch: Forty-five percent of viewers under 34 shop for items related to a show they’re watching. Let’s watch together: Over 40% of younger viewers engage with content in real time with features like Hulu Watch Parties. 30-Day Free Trial $9.99+ / month hulu.com Although the behavior is more pronounced among young viewers, audiences from across demographic groups are excited to talk about their newest watch on social platforms. Horowitz found that 48% of TV viewers regularly engage with social media during or after a show. Among viewers age 18 to 34, that number jumps to 55%. Customers frequently find ways to interact with their TV watching session, and younger viewers are especially likely to do so. The report from Horowitz shows that 34% of viewers have purchased merchandise related to the show they’re watching, and that number jumps to 45% among 18 to 34-year-olds. Young audiences are also engaging with video content in real time, according to the report. Horowitz found that almost three in 10 viewers host watch parties or virtual meetups using features like the Hulu Watch Party, and that number jumps to over 40% among the younger demographic. Only one out of every 10 viewers aged 50+ uses such features. Click chart to expand. The data shows a consistent through line that younger viewers are more likely to utilize interactive features while watching. The insights can be of great help to on-demand streaming services, which are in a constant battle for the attention of younger viewers against platforms like TikTok and YouTube. Perhaps the addition of more interactivity will help traditional streaming services better keep pace with viewers who almost always seem to have a phone in their hand. “For today’s younger viewers who are inherently multiplatform, enjoy participating in trends, are used to immediate gratification, and expect to have a two-way dialogue with brands, interactive ways to engage, share, and even shop while watching is not just an acceptable way to advertise, it is an expected and welcome aspect of engagement with TV content,” said Horowitz EVP Adriana Waterston. “Brands should be working with content providers to explore innovative ways to make brand engagement and v-commerce an inherent part of the audience’s viewing experience to make themselves stand out for Gen Z and other young consumer segments.” 30-Day Trial hulu.com Hulu Hulu is a video streaming service that gives access to thousands of full seasons of exclusive series, hit movies, kids shows, and Hulu Originals like “Only Murders in the Building,” and “The Handmaid’s Tale .” … It offers a good selection of current TV shows and its ad-supported tier is cheaper than both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video .
