[Thread of threads]

I'd forgotten I'd made threads as soon as I got here. It wasn't very practical, but I couldn't help myself. 😅

Until I have a system for grouping them on my profile, like on the other network, I'll gather them here. 🖖

What's fascinating is that Tron Ares, which many people won't go see because of Leto, exists mainly because of Leto.

Ares was a character in the script for the direct sequel to Tron Legacy, which was abandoned a decade ago, and it was Leto who pushed to make a film centered around his character.
There's one big reason we finally have a new Tron movie
Oh, you’re a Tron fan? So is Leto

Absolutely lovely. But harder to recommend to normal people lol

The point is not whether people liked it or not (fortunately there were some 🤗), but what the target audience of the film was and why it is not surprising that the film was not successful.

No hate here, just wondering who this movie is for in terms in of age groups.

When I think about what could be done with a movie featuring AI in our time... It was right there.

By the way, for Tron fans in their forties (and everyone else), I recommend Tron Identity (2023), which is basically a visual novel but doesn't forget the substance behind the form.

I mean, Tron isn't a successful franchise; it's a miracle there are three films, but this film doesn't even manage to attract all the old Tron fans (like me).

It's not even a direct sequel to the previous film (a few winks apart).

What was the purpose? Who is this film for? I don't know.

And on top of that, you can add Leto (both his public image as an actor and the allegations of sexual harassment), the fact that viewers' habits have changed profoundly since Covid (including mine), and all the reasons expressed by specialists.

But basically, I've been 🤷‍♂️ from the beginning.

...the opposite of what I expect, and at my age I inevitably expect something other than a blockbuster that is all style and no substance. However, critics immediately pointed out that Tron Ares is primarily about lights and sound, and that its core is hollow.

So I don't know who this film is for.

...forty-somethings who grew up with Tron, a cult movie? It's not the same audience.

My sons only know this universe because I showed them the old movies, but they showed no interest in going to see Ares.

And as a forty-something, a Tron movie that takes place largely in the real world is...

"Some at Disney were always concerned only die-hard fans would show up, which isn’t a Leto issue but an IP problem. They were right; 18- to 24-year-old males, the sweet spot, badly underindexed."

Since the announcement of Tron 3, I don't know who this movie is aimed at. Teens & young adults or...
“No One Asked for This Reboot”: ‘Tron’ May Mark End of Jared Leto’s Franchise-Leading Days
As 'Ares' disappoints, insiders question whether the self-styled boundary-pushing A-lister can still be counted on to carry a franchise vehicle to the bank.

Spielberg: “Drew made event art. His posters made many of our movies into destinations … and the memory of those movies and the age we were when we saw them always comes flashing back just by glancing at his iconic photorealistic imagery. In his own invented style, nobody drew like Drew.”

RIP the legendary Drew Struzan (1947-2025) 😩

Even though we were expecting the news any day now, it makes me very sad. What an artist.

The way in which the super-rich capture the votes of the working classes is obviously a related issue, but in the meantime, we are all subjected to things that we cannot even vote on.

That a majority of Americans have put the money of the ultra-rich before the health of their children is their choice, it is democracy. But in the rest of the world, we have not made this choice, and our children should not have to pay for their masochism.

Clementine will remember that.
