I have a series of great depression cookbooks I just went through and it was not in any of them - neither was vinegar pie which is what my Grandma Leatha Sue grew up making in pre rural electrified southern Missouri.
Right? In my 36 years of working I've never had people challenge me so regularly on facts about my own job (and education credits for that matter). Wild times. I'd go head to head planting, harvesting, and processing any produce in any field anytime. 🤣 Farm wars. Nah - I'm back at peace now.
One last thing (sorry thought I was done).. I wonder why I'm off farm this season 🤔... and how it would ever be possible to grow up where Monsanto is based (and AgOne now) and not understand the context of my own work..let alone my face to face from Kern to Cimarron and beyond. (H-2A=17% in 2024)
I used print my b&w film prints on Moab metallic paper on my Epson 4880 after scanning with my Nikon Cool Scan 8000 (which I still have 😬) back in my former life as a California printer. Metal prints are 🌟

and just so I can get it out of my system - to the person who called my knowledge "tired rural ideas"... I live in a city - the murder capital of your country in fact... so you'll excuse me if my experience sounds different than you're used to. The assumptions people make on this app are wild.
I try to keep my page a proactive rather than reactive space, but NTs yesterday tryin my last nerve hard. Please tell my tax consult Janis that I'm not a farmer;she'll been trying to get me to do something else. Also hope they catch that bitch that keeps signing my farmer job contracts. Last season.
I just read an article where someone said - "it took longer for me to work through the way Kirsten speaks. Her voice is on the deeper side, and she is deliberate in articulation and in content."
That's me - I'm Kirsten - forcing NTs to work through my deliberate speak. 🙄
She and I just tasseled cause she didn't like my words and made an example of me in front of the whole class... and then I found this amazing "melons" photo that has me 💀 from this article about her expertise... www.theassemblync.com/politics/ele...
Yes clearly my 30 years of training and experience in multiple countries & states starting in a banana republic in 1995.. and being farmer and senior fulfillment coordinator on a 240acre farm last season have no weight at all. Hydroponics are hydroponics. www.theassemblync.com/politics/ele...
Wow - you are mad disrespectful. Just assuming I don't have my credentials is really too bad. Never said I hang out at farmer's markets.... Please stop talking to me. You clearly just want me to beta down to you. Good luck yourself.
The tomatoes in my grocery store are still coming from Canada and Mexico and the Canadian one's are greenhouse grown. Missouri had a hard tomato season this year - less yield, but the farmers in my crew kept prices same as last year for market. Wonder how next season will go.
Also please don't misquote me. Thank you. Stop thinking that statistics capture everyone & that you googling & angling like a lawyer makes you correct. If you really cared about being a farm educator you'd be inclusive not dismissive. I spent 8 months on the road interviewing farmers. I'm not askn
This is all a lot and really not in line with what I said or my experience. My actual positions were as farmer not farm worker. And I did not work for millionaires. Alas going down a rabbit hole to share what is simply real differences in farm experience is something I can't do.
That being said, I do know a lot of people afraid of diversity everywhere I've lived. I always wondered how Vermonter's would talk if their state suddenly became diverse. Seems easy to have strong opinions about what's no where in sight. Same way rich people always think they're in danger.
Yeah I've heard that but my life experience has shown me different so many times on both fronts. Vermont was the most liberal/supposed high IQ place with almost zero diversity (still the 2nd whitest state).. and my podung home state and Texas were diverse af without the beef'n everyone imagines.
Twice a week I drive 12 miles to the county and run on remote trails with archery management, fishing, cliffs, waterfalls, lakes, and the most diverse immigrant populations you'd ever be so lucky to live along side of.
When I was in Gee's Bend Alabama the ferry service was still highly effected by the many years the white people in Camden wouldn't let the ferry run to insure the black people wouldn't vote.
