To celebrate #TransDayOfVisibility this Monday, I created a zine. As a parent of a trans teen, I made this to help others understand how to truly support parents & caregivers of trans youth bc it truly does take a village.

Visist lostfoundblackchild.com to read & download a copy to share! 🏳️‍⚧️💕✨
A zine cover with a blue sky cloud background and a trans boy with a trans flag wrapped around his shoulders.

The title reads: Lost & Found Black Child Presents:

A Guide On How 2 Show Up 4 Black Trans Youth Showing Up:
Supporting Black Trans Youth

This zine was inspired by Trans Day of Visibility, a day dedicated to celebrating trans lives. But trans visibility, safety, and support must be ongoing, not just recognized once a year.

This zine is about showing up for Black trans youth which also includes: showing up for their parents, and for the communities that surround them. As a parent of a trans child, I know firsthand how much love and support matter, but I also know that the endless love I have for him isn’t isn’t enough. Black trans kids not only need love from their caregivers but they aslo need need a village, tangible resources, and real action from those who claim to care to be able to exist in a society that doesn’t want them to exist.

Black trans youth and their families are left to navigate this world in isolation. Many of us are living in stealth for safety reasons, which makes visibility complicated. But visibility alone doesn’t create change—action does.

This zine is for anyone who wants to be part of that action. Whether you’re a parent, an ally, a friend, or a family member, I hope this helps you think about how you can show up in real, meaningful ways.
Together, we can create a world where Black trans youth don’t just survive—they thrive.

I can definitely see self awareness masking self criticism. I am highly critical of myself in many ways.

Although I try my best to practice self compassion it doesn’t always stick. I could see therapy helping when I feel like self awareness is overshadowed by being kind to myself

I have similar problems with wanting validation and people pleasing.
For me it stems from emotional neglect from childhood. It‘s definitely difficult to unlearn.

Yea I think I will try somatic therapy. I’ve tried both DBT & CBT and hated both lol
thekutekween.bsky.social
True. I started roller skating consistently this year and it definitely helps.
thekutekween.bsky.social
I really would like to try somatic therapy. I feel like it would be right for my situation.

Now see this is my fear and I’m glad you said “elementary advice“ bc that’s what it felt like with the last few therapist I seen. It feels like a lot therapy is for ppl who may not understand basic mental health knowledge and I feel like I do. I definitely need a specific therapist.
thekutekween.bsky.social
Lol not you doing her job better than her. This is my fear because I’ve done a lot of research about mental health and trauma for years to figure out how heal on my own so I don’t wanna feel like I’m wasting my time. But of course idk everything and I’m not a MH professional so maybe it could help.
thekutekween.bsky.social
I have also thought about it being useful in a life coach kinda way because I do feel stagnant in life due to a lot of trauma and don’t know how to elevate so maybe it could be useful in that way.

I think the search finding a good therapist is one of the hardest part of the process. It takes a lot time and effort 😭

But I’m glad you found one who youre compatible with 💕✨
thekutekween.bsky.social
I’ve been doing a lot of self healing work as well for awhile. Ive tried therapy a few times briefly but it just never felt like I could continue doing it. Have you tried different types of therapy?
thekutekween.bsky.social
She sounds like a solid therapist 💕✨
thekutekween.bsky.social
My fear is that I already know the solutions and that a therapist will tell me what I already know. But maybe someone else telling the solution in a helpful way will hit different.
thekutekween.bsky.social
Well I believe I do but I could see a therapist helping me with with a different perspective in how I see them.
thekutekween.bsky.social
I think I probably could benefit from being able to say things verbally to another human being. I could see it getting me out of my head.
thekutekween.bsky.social
I been looking into somatic therapy and I think it would help me more than talk therapy.
thekutekween.bsky.social
Bc I’ve tried therapy (admittedly not consisten) and I just felt like I was paying someone to vent about issues I already know I have and know what needs to happen to “fix” them and most of that requires ppl who give af about on a deep level 🤷🏾‍♀️
thekutekween.bsky.social
Question for ppl who go to therapy but are highly self aware of their issues: how does therapy help you?
thekutekween.bsky.social
I usually listen to D’Angelo during my solo roller skate sessions. Tonight‘s session will be no different but its definitely gonna hit different. I’m so thankful the gift of music he gave us

I was JUST watching this video about Black Messiah album last week and how the album for D'Angelo was basically him lending his voice for black people during the time of the BLM movement. ❤️ youtu.be/SzZ00MsomL8?...

I loved that he made music for BLACK PEOPLE. I felt it!

“I never claimed I do neo soul. When I first came out, I said, I do black music.” - D'Angelo

Rest easy king ❤️

I’m not a spiritual person but as an atheist D’Angelo’s music helped me feel so connected to black/african spirituality in a way that no other artist has ever made me feel. I remember when Black Messiah dropped I got high af and listened to the whole album by myself. It felt so spiritual.
