Mouse's #RiverAxeTopThree #Somerset. So which of the sixteen churches would Mouse recommend visiting? In at number one: #StJohnAxbridge. Church and town make a fine day out. More Perpy perfection. Crossing and vaulting are wonderful, but add ceilings, roof timbers and monuments

Mouse with she could claim that was by design! 🐭

Looks like this got photobombed by some of those pesky #SomersetFayries. They must have followed Mouse from Otterhampton

North transept. North elevation #StAndrewStogursey #Somerset for #TraceryTuesday

Nice to see some elegant reticulated tracery from the Decorated period in this seemingly Perpendicular county. A particularly good example although curious as the major period of development was C15

Curious coincidences number 47: Mouse used the phrase 'curate's egg' earlier today. Good in parts🐭

Probably the finest tiles Mouse has seen on her various scampers. They wouldn't look amiss in Mouse's wet room, steam and sauna complex back at Mouse towers

Sanctuary #StAndrewStogursey #Somerset for #TilesOnTuesday

From north #StAndrewStogursey #Somerset for #TowerTuesday

Low 2-stage crossing tower. Louvred semicircular lights to bell stage. Stair turret just visible to right. Transepts and tower are possibly the last remains of the Priory Church. Recessed octagonal spire and parapet are later

We would call it the choir these days, because it's where the choir sing. The whole of the choir, chancel and sanctuary was reserved for the clergy and the officials of the church. The plebs like Mouse were in the nave🐭

Stoche to Stoke to Stoke Courcy to Stogursey (the two being phonetically similar)... all derived from Saxon Stoc, which just means (rather disappointingly)... place🐭

Drawn by Mouse's own fair paws and therefore awful. Mouse failed Art at school. The label 'viewpoint' is the direction Mouse took the photograph (right). If you zoom in, you look through the arches of the crossing (it's cruciform so the tower is over the crossing) through quire and chancel to altar🐭

Although, as the Spanish claim, secondary to the Calvauno region🐭

Property prices were a lot lower then🐭

Mouse do a sketch tomorrow🐭
(Mouse terrible at drawing so you'll have to forgive her scribbles)

They're very easily influenced though. They're like putti in your hands🐭

Some exciting news about that wagon later in the week. It's a secret🐭

The church of #StAndrewStogursey #Somerset is rich in memorials. Mouse bring you what she thinks are the best three. All from the south chapel. This is the third #MemorialMonday. If this pops up 'For you' and you want more, visit Mouse's profile. Like and follow

Top and tail....

This knight's face is a picture of repose. Head resting on his helm and feet guarded by a trusted #FootBeast. Sweet dreams in the afterlife my Lord #StAndrewStogursey #Somerset for #MemorialMonday

From south chapel #StAndrewStogursey #Somerset for #MemorialMonday

Knight effigy on a pedestal bearing mourners under finialed and pinnacled canopies. Very finely carved particularly compared to his neighbour who was of the same family. Perhaps reflecting an upturn in fortunes

From quire to south chapel #StAndrewStogursey #Somerset for #MemorialMonday

A somewhat crudely carved effigy dating to c14. The garb is perhaps typical of a nobleman of that period although could equally be that of a monk or other clergy

North and south chapels #StAndrewStogursey #Somerset

A church that's a grand reminder of Norman Romanesque architecture but sadly blighted by general #ChurchClutter and shonky wiring. Sad. The place needs some love. The south chapel though is an exception and full of interest
