We are back with episode 3 of Art x Science Conversations, this time diving into the world of #corals and studying them in the backdrop of the #desert.

Featuring Dr. Liza Roger from @asu-sms.bsky.social & Dr. Raquel Peixoto from KAUST

How does a mother’s diet influence an infant’s gut health, immunity, and development during lactation?

@emmafcamp.bsky.social is working at the frontlines of #coral reef conservation, studying how resilient 'super corals' may help ecosystems survive in a changing climate.
Her community-driven restoration, the Coral Nurture program, is the first of its kind in science tourism, writes Mohit Nikalje
We need to up our game to sensitize people about the climate crisis. We science communicators are using personal stories to help people realise the transient effects of changing climate: www.theexperimentalist.org/planet/craft...

I feel like I say this a lot, but what's amazing is that the animal has no idea that it's so perfectly camouflaged. The undirected process of evolution works as a pretty amazing optimization algorithm.

Not great news for the geckos that don't make the 'cut', but hey, birds gotta eat.
Mossy leaf-tailed gecko, Uroplatus sikorae, Madagascar. These lizards have some of the most amazing camouflage in nature. I especially love the fractal fringing on the bottom jaw, feet, and body, which helps break up the lizard's outline. 🦎🌿 #herps
Women in STEM should tell more stories. Today, there are numerous platforms ⤵️ to engage and make our voices heard, provide us with tools to share our voices, and shape the changes that include us.

Following our article: www.theexperimentalist.org/sci-comm/cre... we invite you to brainstorm on each of the solutions we listed to highlight biases that still exist in our academic circles.

First up, what #games would you recommend at science retreats to spark discussions on gender equity?
How important are analogies to our science stories?
Diatoms- think solar panels
Autoimmunity- similar to biting your tongue

They simplify complex ideas, create relatable connections, and make stories more memorable.

Inspired by our Art X Science Conversations webinar with Emerging Creatives of Science, Melissa Pappas, Anurag Srivastava and Eisha Mhatre set out to outline these creative resources.

Give it a read and discuss implementing these ideas with us.
Because innovative solutions already exist and can seamlessly integrate into departmental meetings, conferences, and mentoring programs—not just to highlight and address the challenges but to actively engage everyone in being part of the solution.

We live in an uncertain, volatile climate today where limited words and big threads are not enough to put our opinions constructively. We invite researchers and readers to submit opinion pieces on the current academic climate. Your voice will definitely find a home @theexperimentalist.bsky.social
