🫶 to the team - you're the best! One day, we will actually wear a GoPro and perhaps also some heelys.
🤯you realise you've booked pupils progress, offered your gym for a board meeting of 30+ adults and arranged for the autumn term fundraiser disco (also in the gym) all for the same day...
Well, we like to call these days GoPro days and today was certainly one of them! 🤪
🥽the pop-up swimming pool on the playground requires Krypton Factor level planning (showing my age now)
🤮a small child is sick in the middle of their classroom and again in the carpark
🩹a parent takes a tumble on the playground and needs medical attention - she's fine btw
So, you know the kind of day running a school when...
🧒💻you have a new parents Reception tour and the tech doesn't work straight away
☕️ you accidentally drop a mug that smashes all over the floor as the parents arrive
♠️🏚️staffing is literally built on a house of cards
Some top tips, ideas to trial and tweaks to make. Exactly what you want from a professional development day! Thanks too for the extra book 🥰 @hlearningpd.bsky.social
Thanks to
@katejonesteach.bsky.social
for a great day on everything retrieval practice & feedback.
Elliot & Alex came back buzzing, excited about what they had learnt and how well it links with the best practice they are already developing in their own classes and through their leadership roles.
Finally, our SDP board is kept up-to-date by our reading lead so all staff know where to look for the latest research and staff training materials. #everyoneareader

Whole class readers take pride of place at the front of the class and Just Read

has been launched following a successful trial last year. 🥳
From Nursery to Year 6, it's all words, words, words! 📚🗣️
We love the
@nounproject.bsky.social
icons which help codify the new vocabulary children are learning. Year 6 are loving recommending their favourite books.
📊 How often do you ask your team how they’re really feeling?
💬 Next session: @teachertapp.bsky.social on staff morale—straight from classroom teachers.
🟢 Positive morale: most common words = support & team
🔴 Negative morale: linked to workload & behaviour
Plenty for leaders to reflect on.
💡 Anonymous surveys matter—staff need space to be honest.
🧠 Brilliant start to the day with @jpembroke.bsky.social 10 Things I’ve Learned About Data. @insighthq.bsky.social
So much resonating. Schools = complex, “like a bowl of spaghetti”
“Less is more” aligns with our do less better mindset.
Let’s ask: Is the data we’re collecting improving outcomes?
🌟 Huge thanks to @trythisteaching.bsky.social for hosting this morning’s Empowering Teaching Assistants training. Brilliant to be joined by so many TAs from local schools—sharing ideas to better support our SEND children in class. #SEND #TeachingAssistants #Educakers
🍞 Then we revisited our polished Bread and Butter for Reading — built collaboratively in a previous staff meeting.
Now enhanced with reading speed insights from:
@suchmo83.bsky.social & @timrasinski.bsky.social
Together, our Bread and Butter will help us sharpen how we teach and assess reading.
📚 CPD spotlight: we revisited our SDP priority — Words Words Words — led by our brilliant Assistant Head @
We began with
@emmaturner75.bsky.social ’s blog 'Curriculum is a Knife and Fork' — time to read, reflect, and discuss in mixed teams across the school.
We’re developing an Agreed Consistencies infographic — visual, quick-reference examples rooted in what we believe and how we teach @mrzachg.bsky.social
We then turned to 🎥 Great Teaching Unpacked from Steplab — focusing on Participation. @Mr_Raichura
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be concentrating fully on this one area of practice.
🎯 Do Less, Better — deep and deliberate @marymyatt.bsky.social
💬 Staff explored what’s already consistent, what needs refining, and how we move forward — together.
This isn’t “best practice guidance.” It’s a shared, positive expectation we’re committing to as a team.
INSET twilight with our teachers today — reflecting on the Agreed Consistencies we have & want.
We revisited key work from our SDP journey:
📘 Running the Room — @tombennett71.bsky.social
📗 Behaviour Manual — @strickomaster.bsky.social
📙 Rosenshine’s Principles — @teacherhead.bsky.social
The impact: fewer specialist placements needed until KS3 transfer, fewer EHCPs until KS3 transfer, children staying in mainstream alongside their peers plus many other pupils, pre-EHCNA, accessing the provision. Oh, and its £££ cheaper for the LA too. #earlyintervention
It's been a 3 year journey so far with persistent determination to work with the LA to find a local solution for our school context and our families.
We now have two specialist teachers and an array of therapies all on-site serving our children every day.
Well done to our specialist provision team who did a great job showcasing our offer for pupils with SEND to
@kennyinclusion.bsky.social on Monday.
Thanks too, Kenny, for you positive feedback and describing us as a "bright spot" when it comes to innovation and thinking differently about inclusion.
