Jill shares her strategies for strengthening peer relationships in her classroom: https://edut.to/3KQk8ET

#EduSky
“In a positive learning environment, students lift one another up and create an atmosphere where taking risks, asking questions, making mistakes, and learning collaboratively is the norm. Students not only need a good relationship with their teacher, they need to feel connected to their peers.” —Jill Yamasawa Fletcher, Teacher

”Practice > scrimmage > game” is very helpful to me 👇🏽
Can you motivate students to complete homework if you don’t grade it? 🤔 Teacher @crystalfrommert.bsky.social says yes!

Here’s how she makes assignments meaningful *and* holds students accountable.
The Case Against Grading Homework
When homework is meaningful and contributes to their learning, students are more likely to complete it.

If you were thinking about forgoing icebreakers this year... 😂

Thank you to @heymrsbond.com for sharing this last year!

#EduSky #BackToSchool
“So I decided to forgo icebreakers this year because my students are seniors who know each other. After the bellringer, when I went into the activity, one student, visibly shaken, said: ‘What’re we doing? Content?! We haven’t even broken the ice!!’ Y’ALL (laughing and sobbing emojis)” —Chanea Bond, Teacher

"Where you start will dictate how far you can go and I can't think of a worse message for public education to send to kids"

Part of our conversation: @mrrablin.bsky.social thoughtfully laying out why he is philosophically against averaging grades—something almost all of us do...

The walls are filling up with wisdom!

One of my favorite tidbits from today: “Use what you know to figure out what you don’t!”

If you’re at #CAMT25, come say hi! We’d love to meet you ✨
Edutopia’s booth at CAMT. It’s bright orange with a large sign saying “Share What Works!” On the walls, there are cards that say “What Works For Me!” with handwritten strategies from teachers. The table has blank cards to write on.
I'll be heading over to #principalsUNITED shortly! Looking forward to great sessions and a lot of learning. If you've ever considering writing for @edutopia.org to share your ideas, keep an eye out for me!

Checking in with the school leaders out there! I'm headed to #principalsunited with @edutopia.org editor @annenoyessaini.bsky.social! We're looking to learn from all of you and to share great ideas with other admins across the country and beyond. Keep an eye out for us!
Thanks for writing for us and sharing your expertise, Chris! We'll keep an eye out for your next pitch.
This is a tough situation, and @mattpitman.com.au has good ideas for how teachers can get their class moving in a positive direction again. It's not a quick fix, but this is advice I'd want if I were still teaching.
"Many teachers will encounter a class where the relationship fabric has worn thin or is completely torn apart. When the traditional tools of behavior management fail, when both sides feel disrespected, what can a teacher do?"
