Howdy! I'm Laura, the founder and Temple Mom of Ariadne's Tribe, a fully inclusive Minoan spiritual tradition (polytheist / animist). I'm keen on gardening, herbalism, and pre-industrial skills like spinning and weaving. Happy to be here!

This Roman miniature skeleton with flexible joints, jumps and dances when shaken.
The Romans called these skeletons larva convivalis, meaning banquet ghost, and were handed out to guests at dinner parties to remind them to have fun while they were alive.

The Minoans didn't celebrate Samhain (it's a Celtic holiday), but they did have some special ways of connecting with their Beloved Dead.

Bit of a rainbow. It's been a while since I've seen one, so this was a happy sight.

Chicken-fried shrooms! We bought some lion's mane mushrooms at the farmer's market, and I prepared them our favorite way. I don't do it very often, because it's messy and labor-intensive. But boy is it worth it!

SNAP isn't about "people who don't work." It's about people who don't get paid enough to live.

Of the 40 or so million people who rely on food stamps:

* Two-thirds are children, seniors, or disabled

* Most working-age adults who receive SNAP are employed—but in jobs that pay poverty wages
And if not them, your local food bank would love donations right now, especially cash since they can buy in bulk which gets more food per dollar. So many people are about to go hungry due to SNAP benefits stopping.
Guys don't dick around, give money to Feeding America to help support people getting to eat.

They have a great track record of donations going TOWARD FOOD. They can stretch your dollar further. They are everywhere in the US. I've been donating there about 15 years.

This week's Minoan Tarot cards offer some sage advice for these Interesting Times. This deck is my creation, made the old-fashioned way (ink on paper) and available at bookstores everywhere.

A single little lettuce bloom is looking artistic among the shadows. I save seed from most of my garden plants: the circle of life and all that.

I've read all of DJ's books. And yes, I recommend them all. Good stuff.
I'm Scottish, which means I'm thrifty (among other things 😉). I like #herbs that serve more than one purpose. You?

I bet it's beautiful! Oddly, the leaves are slow to change here this year. Most of the trees are still green. It's weird.

We had to evacuate several frogs from the pineapple plants before moving the plants indoors for the winter. Some were easier to "persuade" than others! I garden because I love doing it, but it's also a part of my spiritual practice, a communion with the plants that provide our food and medicine.
The goldenrods are looking especially spectacular this year. What native plants are blooming in your area?
