We struggled a lot with visual clarity in our game. We made many comparisons to find a color scheme that fits the design, is visually clear, and color-blind friendly. It’s still not perfect, but it helped us achieve a much better look.

It is only visual. We have considered making it a speedboost like you suggested, which would also be great for balancing. But getting the boost wasn’t visually clear enough for us, so we decided not to keep the feature. We want to keep the base mechanics simple so it is accessible for all players

You should try out the pico-8 engine. The 8bit version of celeste was made in it aswell!
