Excited to share that our project CHRONO-SCI was funded by FCT under the Exploratory Research Projects call! We are developing a model to control splenic immune responses after SCI and test if stage-specific immune tuning can help recovery. Grateful to my team and FCT for making this possible!
Meet our “neuroimmunology hub” (thanks @jonas for granting a name, and the photo!). Usually a collection of zoom squares, today an in-person storm of ideas. Where we meet to think, build, laugh (and sometimes cry) - together. #neuroimmunology #womeninscience #teamwork

As a daughter of deaf parents, I’ve always knew that how they communicate relies on something fundamentally different from spoken language-it’s deeply visual and expressive. elifesciences.org/articles/96944 shows that the brain doesn’t just lose hearing-it builds new ways to process the world!
Unraveling the impact of congenital deafness on individual brain organization
Congenital deafness increases individual differences in brain connectivity from the auditory cortex, particularly to language-related regions, highlighting how sensory loss shapes brain organization a...

Fascinating paper - mice can engage in targeted rescue behavior, actively helping anesthetized cage-mates by dragging their tongues. The authors reveal a tongue-brain neural connection that promotes arousal. This shows that mice not only show empathy—they take action! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Rescue-like behavior in a bystander mouse toward anesthetized conspecifics promotes arousal via a tongue-brain connection
Bystander mice exhibit rescue-like behavior, promoting arousal in anesthetized mice via a direct tongue-brain circuit.
