#SpiderMan 1987
David Michelinie takes over Amazing Spider-Man, and the legendary Gerry Conway returns to write Spectacular Spider-Man. The highlight of this year is J.M. DeMatteis’s Kraven’s Last Hunt, which explores the psyche of the titular villain as well as Spidey himself.

David Michelinie begins writing for Web of Spider-Man. After investigating a Roxxon conspiracy, Spidey loses his OG suit in an explosion, so it's all black from here. Flash Thompson is framed as the Hobgoblin, and a gang war begins on the streets of New York!
#SpiderMan 1985
1985 is the darkest year yet for the web-slinger, with Tom DeFalco, Peter David, and Danny Fingeroth touching on heavy topics like racism and suicide. Amazing and Spectacular are now also accompanied by a third book - Web of Spider-Man!

The Hobgoblin is defeated, and both Roger Stern and Bill Mantlo leave Spider-Man, replaced by Tom DeFalco and Al Milgrom. But this year is known for something else - the alien costume, which Peter is forced to dispose of after it begins to take control of him!

Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus have a spectacular show-down, leading to an official romance between Spider-Man and the Black Cat. Meanwhile, Mary Jane returns, Spidey visits a boy with cancer, and the ongoing battle with the Hobgoblin heats up!
#SpiderMan 1982
Stern and Mantlo are firing on all cylinders this year, from the surprise appearance of Juggernaut, to the return of Doctor Octopus and the Black Cat, and the debut of the most mysterious Spidey villain yet - the Hobgoblin!
#SpiderMan 1981
Roger Stern makes a splash working on Spectacular Spider-Man, but the same can't be said for Denny O'Neil, whose run is the shortest yet at only 17 issues. Stern hops on over to Amazing, while Bill Mantlo returns to Spectacular. The 80's are looking to be a great decade for Spidey!
#SpiderMan 1980
Marv Wolfman’s rather mediocre run on the main book wraps up, replaced by Denny O’Neil. Also, John Romita Jr. starts his long career of Spider-Man artwork. On the Spectacular side, Bill Mantlo hands the reins over to Roger Stern!
#SpiderMan 1979
In Spectacular Spider-Man, Peter battles the Lizard and the Iguana before becoming a Spider-Lizard Himself! Marv Wolfman ramps up the tension leading to issue 200, introducing the Black Cat, bringing back Mysterio, Kingpin, and the burglar who killed Uncle Ben!
#SpiderMan 1978
Len Wein’s run comes to a close with Marv Wolfman taking over Amazing Spider-Man. Bill Mantlo, the now primary writer for Spectacular Spider-Man, has Spidey crossing over with the Champions, Moon Knight, and Daredevil.
Being anti-Israel and not bought by the establishment goes a long way nowadays.
#SpiderMan 1977
There's twice as much to read this year, but that's no problem. Len Wein's best story yet features the return of the Green Goblin, and Bill Mantlo's Man-Beast story arc is a stand-out from the rotating creative door of Spectacular Spider-Man.
#SpiderMan 1976
Perhaps Spidey's biggest year yet, with the beginning of a proper second series - Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man!
#SpiderMan 1975
Spider-Man's battles with the Jackal reach a climax, as he encounters clones of Gwen Stacy and even himself. Giant-Size Spider-Man wraps up after 6 issues. More disappointingly, the Gerry Conway run abruptly ends after only 39 issues, with Len Wein taking over.
#SpiderMan 1974
Spidey gets another book, the short-lived Giant-Size Spider-Man. In it, Spider-Man unknowingly defeats Dracula as well as teams up with Shang-Chi and Doc Savage. In the main book, several old villains return - namely Molten Man and Mysterio.
#SpiderMan 1973
Gerry Conway's first full year is the most shocking thus far, featuring the death of Gwen Stacy at the hands of Norman Osborn! Gwen's death haunts the rest of the year, and after his father's death, Harry Osborn becomes the new Green Goblin.
#SpiderMan 1972
The Stan Lee run comes to a slightly anticlimactic close, with Gerry Conway taking over as the writer. Also the first year without an annual, which would be disappointing if said annuals weren't mostly reprints at this point.
#SpiderMan 1971
Over 100 issues now. Harry’s on drugs! Spider-Man grows four more arms! And… another writer?
#SpiderMan 1970
Spider-Man enters the 70s with his biggest crisis yet - the death of Captain Stacy, which leads to battles against Iceman, the Prowler, and a far-right politician.
